How do you totally screw up sanding and putting a yoyo together? Fools Golds seem to not have any issues with a basic disclaimer.
It’s not going to happen. A “DIY Yeti Kit” would be us releasing a product without the ability to communicate or guarantee its quality, and we’re not going to do it.
Feel free to continue speculating about how easy it would be or how much/little work you think is involved, but we’re just not going to do it. Sorry!
I’m sure that many of us would have no problem putting together some yoyo pieces to make the most functional Yeti possible with the equipment at hand, but I really don’t think that the majority of the yoyo public can. I have a pretty low opinion of the average adult’s intelligence and problem solving capabilities based on what I experience in my every day life and my opinion of the average young adult/child is even lower. The mass “OH MY GOD TEH YOYO BREAKED” threads in the maintenance forum where droolers struggle with already assembled yoyos that had absolutely nothing wrong with them until the owner started fiddling with them ought to be proof enough.
While it’s all well and good for us to say there could just be a “buyer beware” warning for purchasing such a kit, I think it’s pretty obvious that many of those who are incapable of putting yoyo pieces together properly will blame the company that manufactured the product they purchased instead of what is surely user error. I suspect that many people would complain endlessly even if they put together the optimal Yeti with their parts but it had too many yoyo enhancements aka vibe.
tl;dr: CLYW is stuck between a rock and a hard place as far as Yetis go but I’m sure that a delay on Yetis, no matter how long, will serve the company much better in the long run than letting the public at large try to make their own.
Also…I miss my Yeti.
I was given an old Yiti and it has regular silicone in it. and very old. I took it out to realize the regular pad is a tiny bit too thin. what am I looking for> where can I get a pair of pads?
CLYW has their own pads that are thicker and bigger called snow tires. You can find them at most Yoyo retailers.
