Hi YoYoExpert Family, we started this thread today to share a very special project with all of you.
Do you remember ?
That distinct shape… and the iconic flame engraving.
Yes, it has been 20 years since the “Pyro,” a masterpiece created by the legendary Swiss brand HSPIN, was introduced to the world.
To celebrate this milestone, At Design Lab has officially teamed up with Chris and Had from HSPIN to launch the Pyro 20th Anniversary Project.
Our mission is to pay our utmost respect to the legacy Chris left behind and to pass it on to the next generation.
For us, the Pyro was never just a yoyo.
We still vividly remember the excitement of touching that design for the first time.
It felt like holding a piece of industrial art, something that transcended the definition of a toy.
We created this video to honor that feeling.
We hope this post acts as a key to unlock your memories.
Please share your Pyro stories and photos in this thread !
When did you get your first Pyro?
Which colorway (or edition) did you own back in the day?
Do you have a favorite story related to the Pyro?
Let’s celebrate the legend of HSPIN and the masterpiece that is the Pyro together.
A 1 second still shot of a New Pyro would work a whole lot better than a 19 second video of ‘fire’, lol.
I still remember buying my !st Pyro.. and my second….and my 3rd… and my 4th… and my fifth…. And Chris handing me a rare Black Pyro at Worlds around 2006…. Etc…
Most are long gone by now.. Sold, traded or given away to people that totally missed the Pyro era and just had to have one.
But, I kept a few…. And the Black #1068… New in the tube.
I would sure be up for a 20th Anniversary model.
Christopher Kayatz is a Mastermind… and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
Thanks for stepping up with this project.
At Design Labs certainly produces some Amazing products. Retro themes with updated precision engineering.
Since childhood, I’ve always been more into collecting yo-yos and learning about their history than actually playing with them, and I always wanted a collection that absolutely had to include two yo-yos: an original Pyro (red and orange) and a Pyro Yoyonation. I used to go to LAN houses all the time just to look at yo-yos. I was around 10-11 years old.
Time passed, I distanced myself a bit from yo-yos, and at the end of 2019 I returned to this hobby (already 23 years old at the time, 28 years old today), and today I have the time and resources to collect yo-yos.
I started my quest to complete the original Pyro collection in 2021. I finally got them all at the end of 2024.
I’m passionate about this yo-yo, and the people here who are more active on the forum must be tired of me, since I only post about them. It’s almost a hyperfocus
Realize there is a Core group of long time YYE Forum ‘regulars’, but there is always a come and go following.
Personally, I can appreciate the time trouble and expense you went through, before that family photo was possible.
Functional eye candy is never boring.
When I was a kid (about 65 years ago), anytime the family took a trip downtown, I always walked down 6th street to stare in the display windows at the Candy Store.
Good candy Always looks good, lol.
At Design Labs may cost you some more money….. soon😳
I loved the pyro too!! I think it was 2004 or 5 I saw my first pyro and loved it so much! Scratched flames and dings all around but I really liked my pyro throw like no other til….. well like 2012 I went head first into collecting….. until then I wanted to compete!? Never managed to compete & lost my pyro yo too! This would be incredible!
It’s an honor to receive appreciation from you, yoyodoc!
Yes, they’ll make me a good amount of money if they do something cool! I’m really looking forward to the project ROFL
And take this photo to appreciate it too hehe
Greetings from Brazil.
