C3Yoyodesign Seeker By You - A Review

What’s up 2A fam?

I picked up a pair of Seeker By You from YYE at NY States last weekend and I told @AndreBoulay I’d let him know what I think. After playing for a week, I feel like I’m ready to share some thoughts.

The Seeker By You is a modded Seeker with an adjustable gap.

Pros

  • Matte caps
  • Adjustment mechanism feels solid, even through screwing and unscrewing the yoyo.
  • Adjustment mechanism is easy to use. No need to disassemble.

Cons

  • A little clicky.
  • Adjustment hole is slightly distracting when holding. It’s pretty similar to a flipping sticker, but I don’t use those.

How to Adjust

The Seeker By You has a hole in one cap to give you access to an adjustment screw. You can use a standard allen key to loosen the screw, then set the gap by tightening or loosening the yoyo before re-tightening the screw.

Compared to Stock Seeker

The stock Seeker is one of my current favorite loopers. I really love the matte caps, which the Seeker By You keeps. The stock Seeker is a little smoother on the string. The stock Seeker has a fixed gap, fixed metal spacer construction which feels solid and smooth but it’s not very easily tunable; you have to use lube and string size. The Seeker By You addresses that with the adjustable gap mechanism, but at the trade off of using plastic spacers (which are less durable) and picking up a little clicking sound when looping.

Compared to JPL Loop Up

The closest other adjustable gap looper I have to the Seeker By You is the JPL Loop Up. The Loop Up also feels a little smoother on the string than the Seeker By You. One of the things I dislike about the Loop Up though is that the gap adjustment mechanism tends to open up on me when I’m screwing or unscrewing the yoyo. The gap on the Loop Up is also a little harder to set. You need to first remove the caps, then use a wrench to loosen a nut. After that, it’s similar to the Seeker By You in that you tighten or loosen the yoyo then re-tighten the nut, then re-assemble.

A Note When Compared to Loop 2020

The Loop 2020 is also adjustable, but it’s adjustable through disassembling and swapping out parts, so I did not really consider it a good candidate for comparison.

Conclusions

The Seeker By You is probably my new favorite adjustable gap looper just due to the ease of use and reliability of the mechanism. The product listing does say it’s designed for advanced players, and I wholeheartedly agree. If you’re just starting out, a fixed gap or spacer adjustable only looper is likely going to be more reliable and less frustrating.

Epilogue

In writing this review I had out all of the Seeker By You, the Seeker, and the JPL Loop Up. My 8 year old picked up my blue Seeker and asked if he could have it, and of course I said “yes,” so now I don’t have a pair of Seekers any more

The seeker by you is similar to a loop 1080 in adjusting but has a prefered rounder shape like the 2020 and 720 and the matte caps similar to a 2020. All in all I would. Consider the seeker by you an overall upgrade compared to other adjustable gap loppers.

I’ll note my old 1080s also would lose the set adjustment over time and need to be re adjusted periodicaly unlike the seeker by you

I’ve never tried a 1080. Didn’t they have cracking issues?

As someone with the seeker by you, I absolutely love them to the point of becoming my main 2A yoyos. I like the adjustment system, and I think the different spacers included can make a difference during play.

I wish I could compare it to the JPL Loop Up, but I unfortunately ordered them right before Japan shipping suspension to the US. I quite like the adjustment system on the loop 900 and 1080 because it was easiest to adjust, but you can break it if you go pass the adjustable limit, which I don’t like about it.
