As im training myself in ambidexterity i am also trying to learn looping tricks. I saw the oracle was sold out, and i was wondering what other 2a/ looping yoyos are on the market? Especially somethin that holds up today and is decently beginner friendly tuning and trick wise. Considering the c3 seeker, heard that was good but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I have been really enjoying the Seeker, but my mainstay is still the Loop 720. They are relatively cheap, reasonably customizable, and tend to always be available. Right now there are Matt Szeto and ToyToyToy versions available on YYE and both are and support amazing players.
Cool cool, i bought 2 of em. They should be in soon. What stuff should i buy for tuning and maintenance
The most important thing is string. Looping is hard on string. Players who are competition training might change string multiple times per day. As a casual player, I tend to play the same set of strings for 1 day, sometimes 2 if I’m feeling lazy.
My preferred string is OTS slim.
A lot of folks like Kitty Normal (and I also like it just fine).
Lube is highly preference based. Some people swear by running them dry, many people prefer thick lube, some people use thin, and some do a combination. I would recommend maybe picking up a thick lube as a beginner as more response is usually better for basics.
I would play them dry first to see if it works for you. If you think you would benefit from more response, then lube.
With loopers (and lube in general) a little goes a long way; I usually just do two small dots on the shields of each side of the bearing then reassemble and throw a few hard around the worlds to get it to sink in.
While customizable, I kind of feel playing too much with setup as a beginner is overwhelming, but some people love to tinker. All of the following is optional, and I’d recommend getting a feel for looping before going too deep (or not, I’m just some rando on the internet).
If you want you could pick up the spacers here.
The Sunrise kit is also an option. It changes the bearing size.
Finally, you can get a full set of spacers plus Sunrise kit directly from YYF for $15, but I can’t link it here because it’s another store.
