Build a CNC lathe for making yoyos...Teaser

First off this is a teaser more than anything else. I am not sure if I will build this cnc lathe, considering it would be a huge project and cost quite a bit. But I have not been able to get to the shop to work on things this week and spent a few hours modeling this up.

So here is what I have so far.

The design is a long way from being done, but you can see the basic idea. I am designing it around the tools I have access too.

Specs:
Frame is made from a sheet of 0.375 inch thick steel and then welded together.
8" diameter chuck with a 2.55 bore
Current weight 565.13 pounds
48" long, 24" wide, 24" high

Anyway, I figured I would toss it up here and see what people think. Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions.

Cool! Looks like a neat project. Probably a lot cheaper than purchasing a HAAS machine

lol yeah. I think the cost will actually be reasonable. Especially if I can get some parts off of ebay. Also, I already have all the electronics on my current cnc mill. So I can make them hot swappable and save on that. The linear rails and carriages will cost the most.

Consider a manual quick-change tool post. Either aloris or kdk. Much less complex than building an indexing turret.

I have a quick change tool post on the lathe at work. About two years ago I got my hands on some blueprints for that auto change turret from a guy in Germany. His design wasn’t complete in the model, but it was fun to mess around with. I think I would like to build it if I got the chance.

Here are some more details on the turret from when I messed with it about two years ago.

This is a dialogue I’ve been waiting to see, between Josh and One Drop

Yes to things I don’t understand.
