There is so many great stories during my YoYoJam days! But some of my favorites happened during the weeks before worlds in Florida. Lots of team members would fly to Florida early and spend time at Dalesā€™s house the owner of yoyojam. He and his wife would host a ton of yoyojam team members and it was just non-stop fun and practicing during that time. Me, Yoshi, Grant, Ben, John, AJ, Mikhail to name a few would just hang out and visit the factory with Dale and create weird amalgamations of yoyos.

On the funny side,

My wife has a question,

Oh well :man_shrugging:t4:

Im not sure if i can choose just one to be honest, each yoyo has its own story to tell. I will say that the first time i got to see my Unknown logo on an official Duncan Toys product was and is very sureal. Sometimes we forget how big some of these brands actually are and Duncan toys is one of those brands that is known around the world. So having the opportunity to work with Augie Fash and now Bryan Jardin has been a dream. Duncan = <3

I myself have started throwing amidst the lockdowns in 2020, and donā€™t really know much about where the hobby was before then. Have you seen any big changes in the hobby through the pandemic? Did you ever have a thought where the hobby would go before then, and did the pandemic change that direction?

Believe it or not, I believe that the pandemic brought people in the community closer in some aspects. Yes, there hasnā€™t been any contest for a while but Online contests and with platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram trick development and sharing has been greater than ever. When I started in 2005 it was very difficult to learn tricks because most tutorials were written or had drawings of what to do but now you can just look up a tutorial on youtube or ask around and get help right away. Plus yo-yo technology has also advanced to a point that is unbelievable!

Having the opportunity to work with my friends and collaborate on something we are both passionate about. I also wanted to express myself creatively and design yoyos differently

It depends on what kind of style and yoyo you prefer. But there is a couple new UN yoyos coming soon from CLYW / Duncan / Few and Far Between / JT

What was it like creating a signature yo-yo? How much input did you have?

At least for me, I like to be very involved with the design process with my latest model TRUENO, me and Atsushi (JT) talked about making a new model and I began to brainstorm and research. I gave JT the specific dimensions and goal weight of what I wanted the yoyo to be and an illustration of what my idea shape for this yoyo was going to be. After a couple of weeks Atsushi came back with a rendering of the design and it took 4 prototypes to get it perfect. The first design was really good but it was too light, the second was the right weight but the yoyo felt slow during long combos. By the time we got to the 4th version, we had a solid winner. We had to change the inner cup design in order to meet the expectations we wanted to hit. Our goal with this yoyo was also to lower the price as much as possible so everyone can have a chance to experience offstring and or develop their skills because this yoyo is truly something special.

I have a bunch of questions and most are all connected to each other, hopefully thatā€™s okay. First, how did the iconic black/white colorway for Unknown come to be? Did you always know you wanted Unknown editions to be in black or did it just happen last minute and what made you stick with it and not use a different color for the yoyos? Are there any designs that have been put on the back burner because there isnā€™t a yoyo to put them on yet? How did you come up with the logo for Unknown and whatā€™s it like running Unknown? Is it everything you hoped for? Did you expect Unknown to grow as huge as it is and have a dedicated following? Are you surprised by how sought after and beloved Unknown edition yoyos are and whatā€™s the most surprising cost for an Unknown yoyo you have seen? You donā€™t have to name anyone, but have you ever been contacted by anyone inviting you to join them and leave Japan Technology? And do you ever see yourself leaving JT? Lastly, do you plan on teaching your daughter all of your yoyoing secrets if she shows a real interest in yoyos, or do you want her to find her own way and just help her when she has trouble? Does your family help influence your work or tricks? I apologize for having a ton of questions and I appreciate you taking the time to answer any of them. I hope that I am still eligible for the prizes haha . Hope you and your family are having a great day! P.s. you have the cutest daughter!
