Idk if it’s fair to vote, as I only have the one, but man do I love it.

I prefer the 54 Gen 2 for its shape and versatility. But you definitely want a Beater, I don’t think the 54 Gen 2 is a substitute.

Haven’t tried the 54 v2 but I think it’s ugly and I like the Beater I have a lot

Realized I forgot a potentially key word there.

Also, have you considered “just look at this thing”:

But fr, the second rim set just adds this “Je ne sais quoi”, it has a shmoove groove, and it’s super comfy.

honestly it’s exactly that which prompted the question lol

I recently got to try a Beater and thought it was freakin’ awesome!

Also it comes with a log and a pin lol. I may be listing that 28s full kit for sale/ trade, im waiting on a BBB I got during the sale lol

I thought about maybe half swapping… but idk… I’ve kinda fallen in love with this color way now, and got it for a good deal.

these yoyos are so damn different that you can easily justify owning both

The beater plays significantly truer to your classic organics, has a fair amount of power to it but nothing excessive, plays light on the string. The 54 gen 2 has much more power and is a better performing yoyo due to the lack of the beater’s high walls, but definitely moves a bit stiffer as a result.

I had a beater and I felt like I didn’t play it much, if it was slightly smaller in diameter I would’ve kept it. I will say the new gen2 54 is very very good. It’s one of my favorite one drops. Solid for tech, not great for horizontals though, and it’s all around a good Yoyo. I feel like the beater is a solid organic Yoyo but personally I don’t connect with it as much as other clyws.

For what it’s worth a cool way of looking at it, the 54 gen 2 is basically a mini 420, slightly stretched out and with side effects. :grimacing:

I feel the exact same way for the beater. To me I didn’t like the choice of 7075 for that particular model. I would’ve liked it if it was a couple grams lighter maybe. Actually for sure. But I also think it would’ve been a better player in 6061. Honestly the bathysphere is everything I wish the beater was.

I would suggest you buy both from the bst as they can be found for way below retail value.

However, if I were in your shoes I would get the 54 gen2. I feel like the beater has a common shape that shares DNA with basically every other popular organic. It’s probably a fun chill throw from what I read.

One thing everyone else failed to mention in the comments is that the 54 gen 2 uses side effects. That for me is enough reason.

If you want my advice, just flip a coin in the air and get whichever one you wish it would land on.

I have both, I like the 54g2 slightly more. The beater feels a little heavier on the string to me, a tad slower. The 54g2 feels more modern. I used the 54g2 for One Throw July and it performed great.

I’ve had the Beater for awhile and got the 54gen2 literally yesterday. They’re super different. Beater is solid, heavy, steady. The 54gen2 is fast, nimble, and delightfully floaty. I instantly loved the 54g2 but it’s kind of in my style. Funnily enough, given @Yoyomikie 's comment, my first thought about the 54g2 was that it combined some of my favorite things about my favorite OD - the nimbleness and zippiness of the Rebirth - with some of the peculiar float-y sweetness of an A-RT. The 54g2 is one of the few that I’m keeping that flat bearing in for the moment, too - just feels right.
