It’s not a problem with the yoyo itself but brand new bearings on my POPstar and Superstar have went out with less than 3 hours of play. Two months ago I ordered a Genesis and the bearing is still working great. I ordered a POPstar, Superstar, and Yuuksta around Christmas. I was using my Superstar about 3 days ago and I threw it down and there was a loud hissing sound, I tried using it for awhile but knew something was wrong so I unscrewed the yoyo and tried to spin the bearing and it had no spin time at all. The next day I was using my POPstar and it did the exact same thing and I have no idea why. My Yuuksta that I purchased around the same time has over 20 hours of play on it and it still works fine. I was wondering what my problem could be seeing as they all have the same type of bearing.
That happened with me on my genesis too, it’s very odd, and I’m curious to see the answer
Okay. Try this, unscrew the yoyo, but leave the bearing on the yoyo post. Then, just flick it with your finger, a quick, rapid flick. What happens? A good bearing should spin for around 3 seconds, and then stop. Quiet, smooth. Then, just roll it around with your finger contacting it the whole time… does it spin smoothly?
Try cleaning out the bearing- take off the shields, put it in some sort of solvent (mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol, paint thinner.etc), and then blow out the solvent. Try it again.
That being said, some bearings do seize up for no reason… however, a long soak should clear it out… or compressed air…
Just add a drop of lube and play with them. Works almost every time.
I will try that… As soon as I find the lube… It’s not that I haven’t bought any, it’s just hiding right now, somewhere in my room
After I flick it it comes to a sudden stop, but while it is spinning for a split second it hisses. When I rotate the bearing slowly it feels like something grainy is inside of it. When I clean them out should I remove the shield?
That’s because it spins a little bit off-axis most likely. However, if it feels grainy, it might be. When you clean, you should remove the shields to do the best job.
I thought grainy=dirt=cleaning time?
the same thing happened to my POPstar too. What’s happening? how do i fix it?
Maybe. Lubing is the quicker solution and often times works just because theres something to loosen the dirt or whatever it is and let it come out.
