Anodizing question

Is all the surface of an aluminum yo-yo anodized? The threads where the axle screws into seems to be raw when I look at it. Is that the case?

Depending on the anodizer, sometimes the threads will be untouched. This is caused by the type of set up they use, some use screws to hold the yoyo whole dunking the half into the acid and dye, if this is the type of set up, then the threads will be untouched.

Can I basically tell just by looking at the yo-yo? In most if not all of my yo-yos, the threads look raw. Should I be wary of some clear coat ano on them?

Yea you can, the threads are more than likely raw if there’s no color to them. Not a big deal, anodizing adds virtually no added strength to the threading.

Even if the yoyo threads were anodized, it’d be worn off after normal use by threading and unthreading the axle.
