Am I progressing slow/fast?

I have been yo-yoing for about 3 weeks now and I can do Buddha’s Revenge and Mcbride Rollercoaster. (I’ve completed almost all of the tricks up to those 2 as well.) My favorite combo is doing an eli hop then going into Buddha’s Revenge then into Mcbride Rollercoaster then another eli hop and bind. So am I progressing fast or slow?

I’ve been at this for 8 months and I’m on the Matrix and not even done working on that.

Are you getting your tricks down smooth or are you “yeah, I can do it, move on?”

Like, in my case, I CAN do the Matrix, but I want to smooth it out. Plastic whip is NOT coming along, but that’s what practice is for.

Then again, I’m older and this isn’t coming easily to me. I’ve also had to take breaks due to things like back injuries and issues tied to that.

I got the Matrix down good. I can do Buddha’s Revenge and Mcbride’s Rollercoaster good to but, I would like to be able to do it a bit faster and smoother which is why I continue practicing them… About a week ago I got a YYJ DM2

the right question is, are you having fun?

Yeah! It’s really fun and reasonably easy to learn!

You mean a YYJ DM2.

Easy mistake

Also, i would say you are progressing fast.

It took me 5 years to get rock the baby right, and im still not good at it.(Seriously)

I’d say your progressing pretty fast but don’t worry about learning fast and being the best just have fun, that’s what yoyoing is for.

Alright, thanks guys!

You’re going pretty gottang fast. You’re only a little bit behind me and I started yoyoing in august

But you have to make sure you did the tricks fluently. And make sure you don’t try to skip any.

sounds like your progressing pretty quickly… but Quality over quantity my friend… yoyoing is like playing an instrument or a sport… you cant be a pro overnight… amatures practice till they get it right, pros practice till they cant get it wrong

keep practicing

Thanks for the tips guys!

id say pretty fast

yeah that is pretty fast, i usually skip whatever i can’t do and then come back to it … and then once you are done with André’s tuts, you will discover … that there are more tuts then you can handle lol

I tend to agree with that mindset. However, I’ll slowly progressing through The Matrix. Plastic Whip just ain’t coming to me. I may skip that and head onto Rewind and come back to it later.

Also, like Nivo said, there’s a LOT of other excellent tutorial sites. I recommend visiting them ALL. More information is a good thing. Even multiple approaches to the same trick is a good thing. I find the tutorials at YYE to be really good. Even so, don’t limit yourself.

I don’t think skipping some of the tricks you can’t do is a bad thing necessarily. Move on for a bit and try the next trick. Go back and give the one you skipped a try later.

And yes, you seem to be progressing well for the time you’ve been yo-yoing. Nice job.

I agree with vegabomb. I’ve been at it for a while(about 4 months) and am now stuck on Kwijibo. I can do whips, suicides, lacerations, and most of the tricks up to advanced 2(I’m pretty sure I’m a little farther now) but just learned atomic bomb. You never know when a trick will come to you, just go through all of them once in a while so you don’t forget them(I can’t remember Eiffel tower). You’ll reach a point when you start doing your own thing and you just look back at tricks for inspiration.

Yup, I’m with you guys, I find some things come easier for me than others. For example, I was having trouble with hitting the string in the middle bits of buddah’s revenge. I moved on, skipping a bunch and started Skin the Gerbil. I pretty much got it down, and after a few days, went back to Buddah’s and hit it like 5 times in a row. All that practice keeping my lines straight helped like whoa.

I’ve been ‘modern yoyoing’ since spring 2010 and have jumped around on some tricks (as in I did not stay in the order that Andre has on the site). Plastic Whip I had down which made me have the desire to have unresponsiveness. It wasn’t until around this past December when I was doing my yoyo demo when I somehow was pulling off smooth Matrixes. I knew the steps and all but applying them, my trick was very ‘broken’ and pronounced. Now it all just flows. Boingy Boing took several months before one day the yo-gods must have been nice to me and blessed me with the ability to do this trick while my brother who had just learned a split bottom mount had Boingy Boing down that night. Yes, I envied him for a while. Honestly, I’m in no rush on progression. I’m not lazy either. When I feel like I’m in a rut doing the same tricks over and over, I’ll pull up a couple new tricks to work on.

I have only been yo-yoing for about 5 or 4 months. I can’t even do a double or nothin’. i can almost do the matrix but i have to start from a trapeze. So to me, yes you are progressing VERY fast.
