Anyone here try to match their counterweights with yoyos according to weight? I think lighter yoyos should get lighter counterweights, at least for me.
Also, on that note, what type of counterweights do you prefer? I love the momiji a lot, alongside the Jupiter.
I try to match colors more than weights. Im not all that picky about the counterweight I use, after a couple throws I can usually get used to it (barring unusually heavy/light counterweights) and string length variation throws me off more than the CW.
I generally use gummy dice pro or momiji, but i also have a bunch of duncan dice I use with really light printed beads. I usually stick to cubes though
I mainly use Duncan dice and I’ll usually match the color with the yoyo because I’m not a psycho.
I have a counterweight that allows you to adjust the weight and I really don’t think the weight matters that much as long as it’s within the “acceptable” range (not feather-light and not a brick on a string).
I’m in the camp of it doesn’t really matter. You can just adjust to almost any setup, and adjusting to string length is way harder and makes more of a difference than most reasonable counterweights.
Obv something like an 8g cw vs a 15g cw is a huge difference in how they play, but at that point it doesn’t really matter what you’re pairing them with. The counterweight itself is the big difference at that point, the yoyo being paired with it is irrelevant.
My working theory is that it’s not necessarily based off of the weight of the yoyo but weight distribution of the yo-yos. So as more and more newer yo-yos become more rim weighted you need a heavier counterweight to compensate. Although you can just adjust the length of the string to compensate for the change in play of the yoyo.
I am less finicky about weight of cw like balance of string length can fix that and i am less particular about length so w/e. I will say i cant stand stupid shaped cws like I want to be able to tug on a tangle and have the cw untangle automatically and I findit incredibly irritating when the cw shape doesn’t do that. I just want to play and not have to spend an extra 20 seconds untangling knots
Haven’t measured my 5a strings but I generally cut a couple other inches off than what I typically do for 1a (which is the traditional bellybutton-to-floor length)
