5️⃣🅰️ May 2023

Lil’ sloppy combo. This month has been super fun I don’t remember the last time I played more of another style than 1a. Definitely need to learn some 5a-inspired binds too lol, also sketchy not remembering to take the Apple Watch off.

Thank you. Yeah, it looks like sawchucks but skipping a step or two…

What I really like about the trick (or maybe docpop doing it) is that it looks efortless. Like the yoyo and cw are moving by themselves.

Playing with the 000 with a Porykon and it’s taking some hits, and I’ve almost got the feel for the first half of Meltdown! I so badly just want to be lazy and switch fingers but (that’s not the trick!) having landed the midair transition a couple times it feels so cool. Mirroring it will need a lot of work. Reverse bee sting is starting to feel better, too!

Just a short to bump the thread. It’s still May

Finally getting beestings consistently with both hands!

unsolicited advice warning
it might help to exaggerate the horizontal movement of your bee stings, it’ll give you more time to pull the yoyo back to redirect it, instead of having that more vertical “hop” into the undermount

solid advice! thanks, mable!

Still at it… Currently trying to work out a clean combo to post before the month is over.

5A May is a state of mind that, for me, will continue into June. Need to do more astro but the various bees have distracted me.

Edit: Figured out how to do a reverse half beesting from the rebound :+1:t5:

This is so sick looking!

Double dice is my next goal but one is proving to be more than enough at the moment lol

Heck ya. nice to see some double dice stuff

It’s technically an Astro pair I guess! I’ll edit it. Together, they’re much closer to the feeling of a single cw, definitely not as cumbersome as two full cw so easier to just have them on for regular 5A practice and messing around with breaking them apart.

@mistakenbigfoot inspired me to dabble in double dice, or in this case a ball and a bead lol.

Can I slice a CW in half and it will work okay for double dice bc the weight will be okay or what are weight considerations for that? Just really wanna try it now lol I’m definitely adding 5a to my regular yoyo play all year. 5a May is sick for the exposure and I’ve been having a lot of fun…def not only doing 5a but having a lot of fun. I do wanna jam 5a play this summer while I can play outside more bc I still get nervous inside and work on different stuff…gotta get over that by winter.

Okay tried it and it didn’t work w the rubber ball I was using I think bc of the material is semi soft like it just slowely creeped down like too much friction. On the bright side I can still use it fine bc the string holds it in place when the cw is tied.

It’s not a hard rule but generally the move weight is slightly bigger/heavier, and the end weight is smaller/lighter. The popular double dice sets are all around ~12g so you can still do normal 5A tricks without a super heavy counterweight setup messing up all of your timings on dependent tricks. 5g on the end weight and 7g on the move weight.

This isn’t a hard rule at all and you can use whatever you find works best for the types of astro tricks you’re doing. Takeshi uses same size and weighted dice, but I’d say he’s an outlier.
