True Christmas is about the days becoming longer and the nights becoming shorter. A Pagan holiday.

Before Christmas even existed, TWO holidays already existed in this time period, one of the being Hanukka.
In the old Pagan Scandinavia, there was a holiday called Yule (guess where your Yule Log comes from). This holiday celebrating that the days were becoming longer after a dark winter, celebration starting just about this time of the year. The gift giving and food were all parts of this holiday, and historically, had nothing to do with the birth of Christ.
Christ’s date of birth is not written ANYWHERE, however, in 350 AD, the Pope decided that the 25th of December should be celebrated as Jesus Christ’s day of birth.
In Holland St.Nicholas was (and still is) celebrated on the 6th of December. He was a bishop known for his kindness towards children. With the reformation and the protestantic church, this bringer of gifts was “moved” to the 24th/25th, putting the Christian giftbringer on the same occasion people already gave gifts to eachother.
The holiday as we know it today is Christian, but all the traditions we connect to it are not. Being part of a non-christian family, I still celebrate Christmas, or “Jul” as we call it in northern Europe (looks a lot like Yule?). To me it’s not a Christian holiday at all. It’s a time where I spend time with my family, give gifts, eat good food, and then looking forward to the new year and longer days. Each man to his own I guess.

I agree completely, Zero. I know what the true meaning of Christmas is, but getting new things is cool too.

The only thing I want is a Genesis, and my grandma is giving me $90. If I get a Genesis in a trade then I’ll probably spend it on a bunch of string and pads.
And I think my dad is giving me a Phenomizm for my birthday, while I’m on an airplane to Brazil. That should be fun. And since I’m visiting a bunch or relatives in Brazil I have no clue what I’ll get there.
