3D Printer Advice

I didn’t know you had a 3D printer!

Have you read the Let’s Talk 3D Printing thread? A number of my 3D printing projects got displayed there.

I have not! Headed there now.

Did you have to modify your Ender 3 or have you had success and no issues with it stock?

I think you just forgot that you’ve seen that thread…you even replied to me in it (on Sep of last year).

I have made some mods but none that really affect printing. Just a filament guide, a fan cover, and a cover for the chip behind the screen. It works stock for the most part.I have had some problems but I’m pretty sure it was user error. I did have to replace a fan though. I have see some negative reviews on it but as for me and everyone I know who has one it’s worked fine.

This holds true on MANY things! I’ve forgotten more yoyo tricks than I know. That’s for sure!

That controller holder is sweet!

Thanks!

I’ve not run into any issues with my stock Ender 3 PRO, been a while since I purchased though, so I don’t know if there is a price difference between the pro version and regular.

Pro is about 20-30$ more.

Has anyone tried using FreeCAD for modeling for 3D printing? Are there any strong reasons not to use it?

@MarkD has a design a yoyo tutorial using free cad. He may know.

I’ve designed some counterweights and other bits, for printing, but I haven’t actually had anything printed (I haven’t printed anything myself).

It’s a fully-parametric 3d modeler that can export STL files so you can do anything with it that Fusion360 or Solidworks can do.

This is amazing! I was learning about resin 3D printing techniques and they mentioned something about making holes to avoid suction issues. How did you position the yo-yo at the moment of printing it out?

Making holes for proper suction sounds more like an issue for vacuum-formed products, not resin-printed objects. For my yoyo prints, I had the yoyo cup face down on the build plate. This orientation produces the smoothest, most precise bearing seat possible, and ultimately, that’s the one part of the yoyo body you need to be as perfect as possible.
