Evan used 2022 bimetal edge.
Did he?! I thought he was holding up a green mono. Killed it either way
That location was awesome keeping it at the Delta Hotel in Mesa would be really great it was such a fun time!
Just to be clearā¦
My comment was not intended to be an insult on the Rev 2 or lower cost throws.
I was simply meaning that One Drop make some super great yoyoās so I was surprised more at the Rev 2 being chosen over some other super great One Drop options.
Then again, I love the YYF Dogma and the YYF Kapital, I never clicked with some of the popular throws like the Drapnir or the Grail. I feel I can land my best tricks on the first two and would take them into competion over the other ones. Iām sure lots of people would find that odd as well. People tend to preform best with what they are comfortable with.
100% agree. I did not find your post to be an insult, much the opposite! Rev2 must be as well-made as every other OD if it can get a competitor like Aliyah to 3rd in the nation!
Wonder if sheās headed toward a 3A sigā¦ I still wouldnāt do 3A because Iām terrified and bad, but it would be cool to see.
Is Nationals always the same time of year and location?
Always around June, location has thus far rotated around the country, but not as a rule. It is a possibility that it stops moving, or keeps moving. @AndreBoulay may know more if heās willing and able to tell us!
Personally, I hope it stays in Arizona majority of the time.
I know I missed this one, but geographically I am the closest to this venue.
Honestly, Salt Lake City would be cool. Good geographic location, beautiful city, cheap venues, and really easy to fly in to from rural areasā¦
Just a thought.
It use to beā¦
The phrase use to be. āThe first Saturday in October, the best yoyo players wind up in Chicoā(not an exact quote but close).
Nationals was an annual event for around 20 years, thereabouts. And Chico was the place. And the Birdinhand Toystore and National Yoyo Museum was right across the street.
My story may be missing a few pertinent facts but I have a loose theory on what happened.
The National Yoyo contest was/is suppose to showcase the very best players in the āNationā.
Although many people came to identify āChicoā Nationals as the accepted yearly Pilgrimage to yoyo Nirvana, as time pressed on, there were arising drawbacks to consider.
ā¦.A reasonable number of competition level players could not āgetā to Chico. Itās sort of off the ābeaten pathā so to speak.
Itās not by any major Airport/city/whateverā¦
Unless you want to drive several hundred to several thousand miles, your options fade quickly.
You can fly into Sacramentoā¦. Then rent a car and drive another 100 something miles to get to Chicoā¦ Or get an Air Taxi to the Chico Airportā¦
An opinion started circulating that winning Nats may be a slightly hollow victory when considering a number of potential win level players could simply not make it there for several different reasons(one of them, the sort of remote off in the corner location of Chico)
Thenā¦.THEN, the Chico Airport closed and even that option was no longer available.
A number of people of considerable yo-yo āinfluenceā decided to consider alternatives. Ideas were tossed around like, āWhy not move the Contest around the Country each year so at least the various parts of the Countriesā players could take turns having a shorter trip to makeā?
Making the Nationals more āapproachableā to a potentially greater diversity of players? Maybe some would be so close to actually ride a bike, a bus or walk to the Contest. Why not?
Bob, Thad, Steve, Andre and a few others hashed out the near future and came up with āLetās step outside of our comfort zoneā and try to improve the situation.
Nowā¦ here we are several years later. No matter where the National Yo-yo Contest is held, everybody is not gonna be equally happy. Contest city, Venue, accommodations, places to eat, weather conditions, no place is going to be perfect.
But the Love of Nationals, the enthusiasm, the energy, the thrills and the Spirit of the Contests history and meaning, go wherever the Contest goes.
This yearā¦ Mesa, Arizona. Good news? Bad news? Well, sometimes you can get just as good of an idea by what you donāt hear as from what you ādoā hear. Meaning what?
While few raved about the Contest, very little negative feedback aroseā¦ So we got some good feedback and little bad feedback. Soā¦ā¦ using basic math and a reasonable and logical mind, what does that add up to?
The 2023 National Yo-yo Contest will again be held in Mesa Arizona.
You just got a 1 year advance notice. One less excuse to not be thereā¦
