2014 Mystery Box *SPOILER ALERT* - Official Discussion Thread

This was much easier than last year. (For me) I checked out real smooth. No error message. No constant reloading. Extremely pleased with the ease of ordering.

I think it may be that less ppl are interested though. I got mine 27 mins after the email was sent. Last year I tried twice. First time took 10 mins. That was too slow. The next day I clocked in at 3 mins. I got several error messages but it finally went through.

This could be due to having more options. (Premium/Collecters/Standard)

Maybe people just no longer think its a great deal.

(Last year was $45 for 140 value.)

its time to celebrate for whoever scored a box. comment how long it took and what box you got. it took me 20 minutes and I got the 50 dollar box

I got the $50 box and it took me a little over 10 minutes to score it. Everything went according to plan. 8)

got mine monday sat down saw they were selling thought i wouldn’t get one, took a shower came back downstairs they still hadn’t sold out so i got two…one is going to a friend though.

I thought you said you weren’t going to get one? Lol what changed your mind?

I Received No email lol

Extra cash can help you change your mind.

I wonder why the CZM8 never took off.

I was refresh between the buying page and my mail box…
Still didn’t get the mail…(I found the mail in the junk box afterward!)
Luckily,I also refresh the buying page that makes me score one box!!
I was going to buy two boxes this time, but I was underestimate the shipping fee…($29!!)
So eventually got one. And I really hope that would be worthy

It’s a real shame, since it’s a good yoyo. I took my prototype one away with me as my holiday throw for a week and I really enjoyed it.

I think the biggest problem was that it was just a simple design that came at the wrong time. With the Shutter’s perculiar shape and cup design, and the Horizon’s likewise unique construction, the comparatively simple CZM8 just isn’t getting the same attention. There are so many amazing throws out in the budget-metal range these days, it’s a tough market to really stand out in.

Also, the feel/play of the CZM8 is nothing inspiring. It’s a good, stable, long spinning throw, but it doesn’t really have a unique feel or standout characteristic so you don’t hear much buzz about it. It’s like the 2013 Superstar in that respect, it feels a tad robotic, even though it performs really well.

I also feel the choice of colourways as well as the engravings let it down a bit. I think the prototype CZM84VK looked a lot better with the smaller engravings. Most of the splash ones were done back when YYF’s splashes were pretty awful, which didn’t help much either.

I hope people do get CZM8’s in their boxes. It is a good throw and it’d be nice to see it in more people’s hands.

Agreed on all points. The CZM8 was my second purchase when I got back into throwing. I found it largely uninspiring at first, but that was more so because its shape was simple and it was just robotic like you said. However, I revisited it heavily on a weekend out of town, and realized it’s really a great throw. It just sticks anything I throw at it. Unfortunately, I’m more a fan of organics, but if I want to get a trick down, I’d pick my CZM8 to hit it with first. I kind of assume this is true of most V or more competition styled throws than organics, but the CZM8 is no joke, and a great value.

I grabbed a Pink Slusny CZM8 Proto and loved it. I wouldn’t mind getting a full-production run.

Just saying there will probably be cyphers because they didn’t take off when the new ones came out because everyone had the prototypes.

Refresh, refresh, refresh! Yup, that’s what I did too.
Except, I’m from the US so shipping for me was $3, so I got two.

If they didn’t take off, then nobody would enjoy one in their box. But, anyways, they weren’t prototypes, they were just special editions that you could only get before the first run and with a Mystery Prague Pack.

Then why did YYE and YYf say that they were prototypes. They wouldn’t lie about that, also there were no prototypes if you say that the Prague weren’t prototypes.

I now join the group of people with no e-mails…

I don’t remember one way or the other what YYE said… but remember that pre-release and prototype are not the same thing. Pretty sure they called it a pre-release.

The far more common scenario is that prototypes don’t get a run at all, so your logic is a bit flawed. If you say that Prague weren’t prototypes, that has no effect on whether there were prototypes at all. Of course there were. Somebody somewhere finished and initial design and made a few of the Cypher, tested it, and made tweaks as needed. That’s what prototyping is. Prototypes are usually kept in-house or find their way into collectors’ hands.

Sorry to hear some of you did not get the notification emails. They get sent out automatically so sometimes they can get pushed into your junk/spam folder and once the server gets swamped they can get delayed a little.

There is good news though! Today’s release will be announced through the forums so all of you should have a significant advantage at getting a Mystery Box!

How many mystery boxes would my dad and I both get
