correct me if im wrong, but what function would the superwide have? it seems like the width would make it easy to land a trapeze, but the wings would get in the way of a double or nothing or a wrist mount…
if someone out there is throwing one, let me know how this works…
But in all seriousness, you say that this isn’t a gimmick yoyo, and that the butterfly shape was a gimmick at one time too. It makes it seem that you are comparing the two in an equal playing field. Obviously the butterfly shape makes string catches easier, what does the SuperWide do beyond that.
And dear god don’t say “It makes string catches even easier.” otherwise I will cut you.
I would love one, but I cant bring myself to spend the money… In the last month, everytime I say I want to buy a yoyo I stop and say no… Next yoyo will be a Supernova!
But I think the Mighty Flea was a novelty yoyo. The Superwide on the other hand has all the stuff a modern unresponsive yoyo needs, wide gap, rim weight, silicone, and a smooth bearing. So what if its a little big? Do you not have enough room in your heart for a big yoyo? For shame
So, the response to this respectful, thoughtful, perfectly natural question is: “about 10mm”?
Is this an answer? This is like saying “but this goes up to 11…” (Spinal Tap)
I think that none of the replies have answered the original question except the one that says the Superwide plays just like any other yoyo. That seems to confirm the gimmick angle for me.
If this is NOT a gimmick - then answer the question with real answers. Flippant answers provide no additional information.
** So - Just to be a pain ** - I will ask again - because I am curious also:
What does the superwide offer that any other yoyo doesn’t?
The advantages are pretty obvious I would think. It is SIGNIFICANTLY wider. Advanced play takes advantage of this width and when combined with stability amazing things are possible.
If you cant take advantage of increased catch area to play faster, maintain stability horizontally or perform more difficult catches, combos and overall tricks it is of absolutely no advantage to you, just a gimmick.
But doesn’t having such a large catch area take away from some of the playability?
I mean, there is a time when a large catch zone does help, but isn’t 10 mm more just kind of ridiculous? What is there to gain from an extra 10 mm that an extra 2 or 3 wouldn’t do.
Again, not trying to attack you, as I enjoy your company and what you stand for. Just trying to make sense of it.
Are you saying that it basically is a novelty throw?
Im going to let people review it and give you their opinion.
I spend my year traveling to almost every contest on the planet, hang with all the players, placed in the top 5 at world in my own right, sponsor a significant portion of the top players (who agree with me) so my opinion should hold some weight… but if you still think its a novelty, thats ok with me
If you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to try it, I recommend you do, and I look forward to hearing you opinion also
