I misspelled thanks for the help I have Superman down now just trying to incorporate my own style to it so it looks more natural for me. The tutorial I found on dumshot is like a Magic trick.

Never learned Iron whip. Probably because I am not fussy enough bout string tension or determined enough. Also never learned Superman, it looked hard. Actually the list could be quite long

Okay this looks like a sick trick! I like ripcordy looking hooks a lot and I’m going to try this when I get a sec also nice work w Superman! There is a hobbygod tutorial about it where he talks through the trick and it’s kind of a funny tutorial bc he’s like ā€œyah go watch the other one and if you can’t get it or w/e come here.ā€ I saw this post and googled it before I saw the updated post and that was the tutorial that came up you should check that one if you haven’t yet maybe

A lot of people mentioning boingy boing so I thought I’d offer some tips…

What helped me the most was to do a few forward rolls first so you have some wraps around your throw hand index finger and the string is shortened. It definitely helps stabilize the strings and just makes it a lot easier IMO.

Other than that, stay in rhythm, make sure your string segments are lined up, and that your throw hand is moving straight up and down. And practice!

I just got Superman down trying to mmJe it my own and learn more complicated versions now. It is worth putting in the work, you will get over the difficulty once you get the magic drop portion down and it will help with all other magic drop elements it has with me and opened my trick portfolio wide open thanks the many here on the forum

No problem at all! You were the one that put in the work and got it like I mostly just parrot stuff I heard plus some I figured out and I like talking about this stuff.

I landed one of those dumshots and imma play with them more later but I thought of a couple things. This is a tension hook like the ripcordy double or nothing tension hook and it might be helpful to learn that one first if you don’t know it yet but you don’t have too it just helped me that I knew that and that one is maybe a bit easier but they’re close. Most important tip I can say is to give it a little hang time so it goes up and you have time to let the string go around. You should be able to see the string whipping around and hooking the Yoyo. Be calm and try it extra slow first to make sure you see the loop that’s coming around and you know what to aim for and what to catch.

Others might disagree w this next tip but this is a trick that strings matter for like I landed it with my super tight whippy strings pretty quick then tried it a few times with the default soft and fluffy string that came with the speedaholic fx bc I dunno what string that Yoyo needs yet and there is no way I could land it on that string without way way way more work like string don’t matter thaaaat much but they kinda matter a lil bit especially for stuff like this also check string tension always basically bc it matters with this

Edit Okay one last thing bc I gotta get back to work but nth also goes in a little circle after the string is released and can carry around the slack under the Yoyo. This is how you adjust the timing kind of and this motion is the same as a gunslinger whip (might be different whip name but it’s like out and away and then down and towards yourself then under that counterclockwise J circle). but smaller and with nth. That’s all the details I can think of

Edit again here you can see the weird movement with nth

Beefhooks are still seemingly a luck of the draw for me. Seasick… Nope. I have no issues with boingy or over/under.

Hi Michael, I had a quick go with this yesterday night, I tried to do it wrongly on purpose to see why you are not able to do it, I am pretty sure that your non throw hand is too low when you throw the yoyo for the hook.
Try to keep it higher in this way the loop it create very easily, from the video and looking at it at normal speed doesn’t seems like that so I just took a frame from it, look how high it’s his NTH basically there is just a tiny portion of string left, you do not need to do any weird movement as the loop it create by itself, that’s the whole secret

Pretty sure you need to move nth a little weird at least…I just played with it more and I couldn’t get it to work without moving nth in a tiny circle. I edited my post above to add a vid and the circle I do is pretty clear. You might not even notice how you’re moving nth bc you’ve been playing yoyo for a while or there are multiple ways to hit this hook I don’t know. The weird movement works for me and I definitely described it poorly.

These content creators always do that lol some of my favorite tutorials are where they show the mistakes.

i still dont get 1.5 hooks and anything horizontal tech related

Dylan K’s presentation is very much as a magic trick. I am excited to try to get this trick learned.

That positioning of the finger and the turn with palm up like a hook with the nth index finger. That is the magic I have to get down. I will try later when not at work.

Everyone thank you so much for the input.

I am improving my skills with the help of the community of some of the best yo-yo people.

I an attempt to not be overly positive I know not all yo-yo people are at the best all the time.
Myself included

Have a great rest of the week working on tricks.

Jade and Iron Whips. I try them every couple of months, but I just can’t seem to grasp how to stop the yoyo and whip the string simultaneously.
