Boomer meetup!
I want to setup some sort of in person central US boomer meet for next year but it’ll be hard to pull off.
I’m in Indianapolis, IN. I’d be interested in something like this if my schedule allowed for it.
If enough notice were held out i would do my level best to make this.
Alright so I’ve been playing with the Operator non stop since receiving it. I have all my other yoyos packed up in moving boxes so even if I wanted to play something else I can’t haha.
I have to say, I’m in agreement with the changes for proto v2. Slightly more rim weight to add more stability would be great. I don’t really notice the catch zone being too small, but widening it couldn’t hurt either. I only mention it because that’s one of the design adjustments being implemented. I also believe it was mentioned that the schmoove is possibly being widened to remove some inner weight while increasing the rim weight. That sounds swell and dandy.
The one question I had from a design perspective is: what aspect of the design lends itself to allowing for more string wraps? I feel like the Operator would really pop off if there was a little more space for string before catching the pad. That would be my only critique so far.
Oh and…. Gosh darn these spikes are sharp! lol.
Best matadors I know I’ve ever used! Love 'em!
I think you are referring to the Gap. Not sure what the gap is on it now.
Or use thinner string to verify your thoughts?
Did the operator come with a rage (grooved concave) bearing or did I swap one into mine?
Either way a ripper (center track)would open up the bearing for more wraps
Similarly opening up the response area by widening the schmoove should help in this regard a bit by reducing a bit of the string rub and catching. Also increasing the gap a hair maybe…
The catch would be fine by me to widen and shifting weight to rims from center will give it more stability and power which will also reduce the issues with wraps too
I’ll try some ep 20/20 on it tomorrow. I also have a concave C I can throw in it too.
I know there’s probably a link in this thread SOMEWHERE, but can anyone point me to where I can snag D bearing blanks for my Workhorse?
zgrt
The ZRGT blank is really cool, but in my experience a bricked slim D bearing works a bit better due to it not having the slanted walls on either edge. The walls are great in one sense because it allows the “axle” to be smaller than a D size bearing, but it has the added affect of keeping the string away from the response pads.
So just a slim D bearing with some super glue in it?
Precisely. It seems more reliable with the response.
The blank is nice in that it feels like cheat mode on a blank. You get allot more spin than usual
You are talking about the ZGRT blank being a “cheat mode”? I’m fascinated by this whole conversation so just trying to make sure I’m following along correctly.
Yeah, you trade a bit of reliable response for more spin time. The smaller diameter of the ZRGT blank lends itself to more spin time. But if you’re playing more stall based then the additional reliability of response is more important.
I would caution against a “Slim” or Half Spec D Bearing.
If Bricking a Bearing = D x 4mm.
The posts in this yoyo are still too long for the Dx3mm or Half Spec.
While the ZGRT D Blank “Is” 3mm It works because the flares touch the side of the yoyo and do NOT go into the bearing seat.
PST.. you can shim it. Or be a @Slestak75 and shave the post I guess
