Yoyo Boomers Club

Got a killer care package from our resident YYBC member and maker @AudreySickburn (thank you so so much!) to go along with this sweet shirt from @rkalajian! Now I can truly sport the shirt properly!

Weirder Pal (MR85): Slimline stall champ with an MR85 bearing, winning combo! So good!
Keyhole: Comfortable, hefty, wonky goodness, plays so surprisingly well!
Honey-B Bearing (B-Bearing of course): Super smooth, feels like it has a presence on the string, but play and return are light and flowy almost, hard to describe, but a lot of fun. Also, Jazz-Cup-esque, and take apart, big plus!
The Honeybee…LOVE! Y’all are going to have to pry this one from my cold dead hands. Play is phenomenal, weight distribution is spot on, response is great, everything I was hoping for. Plus the profile is just fantastic, and doesn’t inhibit the play at all. It’s like a bunch of bees designed their own butterfly, complete with honeycomb response system, and an adorable engraving. Everything right where I like it to be in a fixie.

Not a dud in the bunch, going to get a lot of play out of all these, much appreciated!!!

I’m stoked about the Weirder Pal! Let me know how it plays!

The Weirder Pal is super fun. Slimline but so easy on the catches. Great gap that makes play so smooth at a fraction of the width! Stalls are excellent too!

I didn’t even realize there was a bearing in there at first until I looked a bit closer because it was so smooth and quiet. It’s sincerely a good fit on the Weirder Pal!

It’s a whole range of feelings, feels old-school because it’s a bit heavier (which i like), but spin time is great, response is good for fixie tricks, not hard to string catch like some other slims, and very stable for as thin and tall as it is. It harkens back to the feeling of just wanting a really good 0A throw that can easily slip in your pocket, with stalls included.

I don’t have many slims that are close to as good in play as the Weirder Pal.

I absolutely LOVE the Weird Pal, for all the reasons you mentioned (except the bearing, because it doesn’t have one!)

I’ll have to send one out to you. I’ve made a handful of Weirder Pals (literally)

My favorite acoustic is 12 string Luna I got for like $200 (new! From a store known to overprice!) It plays awesome and holds tune incredibly well, which 12 strings in general are not known to do. I pick it up every few months and it’s usually good to go. I would not hesitate to buy another Luna. Also the inlays are moon themed if I remember correctly.

I seriously love this guitar.

Have you found a way to send one to Weird Al himself? I bet he would love it

Buried in his FAQ (under “where can I get an autograph”):

You can also try sending a letter (and a stamp) to Close Personal Friends Of Al (PMB #4018, 8033 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046)

Yes! This was a collab and I kept forgetting to ask Snoopy if he was okay with me publishing those lol. I got the go ahead and will publish the fixed axle and MR85 versions this week.

The Weirder Pal is everything I wanted the Weird Pal to be, but even still, they’re both incredible yo-yos! I’m very happy with them both; they will definitely be coming with me nearly everywhere I go.

The Weirder Pal uses some Weird materials in its construction. Notably something called Fish Paper as the response system instead of Turbo Discs. I’ll put up a shopping list when I publish it lol.

I think I might have to bug you for a weirder pal. Do you have a looney, yet? Wanna make a trade!? :grimacing:

That’s what that was! I was looking at the response when I got mine and was like “these are the stiffest pads I’ve ever felt” haha.
Totally work great though!

Yeah I had been hunting for a replacement for Turbo Discs. I tried cutting my own from gaffers tape, kinesiology tape, bandaids even. They all worked but were a pain to make. Then I found fish paper. These discs are a course paper made from highland barley that’s been vulcanized. They are usually stuck on top of lithium batteries to insulate them.

I was worried they might be too smooth compared to turbo discs but they ended up working great.

I ordered a looney during the RCS close out sale. But I was gonna surprise mail you one of these. So you can act surprised when one shows up later lol.

Every time I go to the RCS page it just looked normal, I feel like I’m living in an alternate timeline.

Is there no mention of the closing on the page?? The pricing looked normal too??

I ordered an NQP from one drop right before I found out about RCS closing, so that was unfortunate. I would have snagged a Busker or a looney, I love smol throws
