Win XP booted up like this.

I’ve tried restarting, restarting from last known good configuration, etc.
What can I do to fix this?
This is a Dell Optiplex gx60, btw.

Have you tried to Reboot the computer?
As in Erasing?
Maybe… Unless you have important files

How do you wipe a gx60 hard drive? Idk how.

Did you get a restore disk with it? Sometimes you have to do that. Mine came with one and it gives the option of restoring the OS etc but leaving the user section intact (mostly). Mine is not a dell btw.

I can’t see the attached image, so I’m shooting from the hip.

You can usually wipe a drive quite easily.

How would I do it with this though, given the fact that it didn’t come with restore disks.

I still can’t see the image. Probably blocked on my end.

W/O the restore disks I don’t know. You didn’t get any OS disks with it?

Just the computer.
I don’t think this is something I need to wipe my hard drive over…

The picture should work now ^

Thats your display settings… or something with screwy with your video card.

I’ve screwed with the display settings and nothing is working. so It must be my video card.

If you know what kind of video card then you might try reloading the driver for it. Simpler and way cheaper (as in free) to try that first.

That photo looks like 8 or 16 bit color setting.

Yes, I would try reloading the video drivers. It definitely looks like a display issue.
Have you done a MS update recently? That may have hosed the display settings.
If so you can usually back those out.

So, any further news on this?

It booted up in 4 bit. reloaded the drivers; working great. Thanks for the help B)

Glad to hear you got it worked out.

Booted up in 4-bit? What the heck is that? Greyscale? Are you seeing full-color? What is 4-bit boot-up??

The image I saw looked like a video card issue. It is either an old/outdated driver - or a hardware issue in the card itself. The image looked more like a broken video card than anything.

Ummm, I think he said he reloaded the drivers and it’s all good…

Thanks, and I am glad that he has apparently solved his problem.

But my question was what is 4-bit boot-up? I have never heard of such a thing. I am hoping that the video card he has did not default to a 256-color mode (default VGA) that looks as if everything is working fine , but might not be.

Being told to “Boot to 4-bit” just does not make sense. Regardless of the OS - a VGA driver should at least be available to use as an option for vidoe boot.

under display, the only option was 4 bit. thats what i mean.
