I use AI at my work all the time now. I hardly ever write my own code by hand anymore.
What kind of code are you working on? Is it applications? Devops? Database/Back-end? Just curious what kinds of code can be fully automated. Maybe I am behind the curve… 
This is how it’s gotten for me. I’m more of a human guardrail than anything. Then again, I’m doing web dev for an ad agency. It’s not rocket science.

I’ve got a massive vpn system at the moment I am developing, almost done, 60+ hosts, 9 AWS accounts, many regions. Automated host maintenance, vpn tunnel monitoring for jitter and packet loss and stuff, automated user troubleshooting for OE to use.
My coworker built a large application, full stack, react based I think, but she fully met all of the styling and security standards while automating the whole thing.
Guarantee if you do the research you can automate your code. You might wish you didn’t 
but you sure can.

Web applications for insurance mostly. I work on the UI, backend and the database. It’s not complicated work but we do have some particular business rules.
What has been most effective for me is using the planning mode of the AI agent. It takes a little time up front to talk through what you want but the end result is pretty close to what I would write myself.

Within health insurance. Got foot in the door with EDI. Took it upon myself to automate a lot of legacy processes and workflows. Got noticed and promoted to data & integration engineering. Now basically maintaining proprietary systems while the company acquires other businesses to put me out of a job. That, and AI… the writing is on the wall for me.
ChatGPT, give me cabinet making exit strategy.

I think you’re spot on. Atleast, it will probably look like that for a segment of time, until the snowball rolls that up too.
My dad owns a scrapyard. I think he’s better off physically, mentally, emotionally, and probably financially than anyone adjacent to me in the tech sector. Every single day I consider quitting and asking if I can go work in the yard. This computer business is for the birds.

The posts here are getting progressively more bleak, it’s heartbreaking to see. I will not ever use ‘AI tools’ in my projects for ethical reasons. If you’re in a position to do so, then I implore you to do the same. You will be happier, smarter, and feel a greater sense of fulfilment for it. (To everyone else, look after yourself out there…)
Also, if you don’t know how to write code then here’s my message for you: learn now! I’m serious! It’s like the most enthralling puzzle game ever you’ll ever play and it has no ending. If you don’t know where to start, then learn Python. There are loads of resources out there for learning it and lets you do so much.

I think we need to be less hyperbolic about AI. Unless someone hooks SkyNet up to the nuclear arsenal, I think we are being a bit dramatic about this threat to humanity stuff. AI promises amazing potential benefit to humanity. Unless we are naive about the potential threat, I am more concerned about younger workers and the traditional career path.
I certainly do not want o create impediments to AI use and AI development that just lets others without these impediments do it instead.

Don’t worry they certainly aren’t attempting any impediments. See: the arms-like race between USA and China for AGI/ASI; the billions upon billions being funneled into the AI furnace despite none of these companies producing any profit; the complete lack of oversight/regulation/auditing; etc.

Hyperbole. There is no blood unless you believe that an AI chatbot told someone to kill themselves and they did.
The rest is just subjective conjecture. The ‘means’ you are dramatizing are again, conjecture. How does some researcher come up with a 10% chance that AI will kill all of humanity? By what calculation; using what calculus? Much of this seems like it is blown out of proportion as click-bait.
