Summary
One Drop will never switch to centring bearings because:
- With so many bearing designs available, no matter what One Drop ship out of the box, some group will still complain that they have to pay extra to swap it out.
- Frank Difeo (AKA Dif-E-Yo) pioneered the use of concave bearings in yoyos, and patented his design for the first centring bearing—the KonKave bearing. David feels that later centring bearing designs were created to avoid paying royalties for KonKave. Some even used the KonKave design without paying for it. Because of this, David feels that it does not honour Frank’s contribution to yoyoing to use non-licensed concave bearings.
- One Drop never used licensed KonKaves because it would’ve increased the price of their yoyos.
- One Drop have used the same bearing suppliers for a long time, and they are very reliable and long-spinning when compared to similar bearings.
