I am still working on Suns, it’s hard for me to keep it from dropping out after 4 or 5 rotations, but i think I am going too fast.
It was really fun to see spin top competition at Nationals! Even if the stage was infested with gremlins, it was cool to see some nice tricks. The best part of any contest with spin top players is always behind the scene anyways, battle tops and trading tricks and stories. Maybe next year.

I don’t think I’ve ever bombed so aggressively at anything in my life as I did at the Nats lol. Definitely just gonna go back through all the basics and fundamentals for a while and really work on consistency.
I kinda just felt confused afterwards. It wasn’t the people because I was landing huge tricks during practice. But when I got up there my hands were shaking lol. I guess there’s always next year.

All good bro! Takes a lot of nerve to get up on stage and perform! Definitely something I would not be comfortable with! Keep doing your videos, you are helping more people than you realize! Congrats on performing!!!

I have only done that contest thing on a stage one time. You can practice tricks all day long, but you can’t practice having a crowd watch you unless you go perform in front of a crowd. Then throw in the fact that there are professional skill toy demonstrators critiquing your every move..
Way too much pressure, hard to imagine people like Mark and Dave actually enjoy all those eyes
That was quite the trial by fire, I bet if you do it again you will kick butt.

I am considering making a tutorial on how to make spin top buttons from bottle caps. Y’all are probably thinking, “how hard could it possibly be?” Well, it gets exponentially more difficult after about the 5th one.

You can kind of gauge how bad you are missing a trick by how far the tops roll away from you. I gotta bring more tops or I am going to wear out my shoes trying to get this behind the back whip catch.

If it makes you feel better, I still see your level skills as a goal, I definitely am inspired every time I watch your stuff. Contests/ live performances are a whole other beast, and it seems like you took whatever happened pretty gracefully from this post. Better luck next time my dude!

One thing I noticed was the high skill players play well with a short circuit also. Let me tell you. It’s not an easy task to play low RPM fast play. So…. I think I’ll be practicing with this thing for a while. I honestly think it’ll get me pretty consistent eventually. Or at least smooth. Plus being able to catch these is some sort of wizardry.

Yes! And that combo looks great!
The SC and lighter tops require way more finesse, if you get used to catching a heavier top, you will launch a SC trying to catch it the same way.
Btw, I am super jealous of that snap start!

So everyone I saw snap start a SC does it right into a drum beat. I wouldn’t have, only because I learned the other way. But I’ll be honest it works a million times easier on light tops. However, Gerardo still does it the normal way. He’s some kind of magician lol

Doing difficult things to catch with the Alice. It’s definitely helping with the forced accuracy. Here’s some tiny leg orbits and a tiny home run whip.

Still working occasionally on Boomerang. Got a hands on lesson from @kevinm this afternoon and while I didn’t get to actually try, I feel like we figured out what I needed to adjust. We shall see. Thanks Kevin it was good hanging with you.

So oddly enough, it took me many many years to figure out what I was doing wrong with the trick Corkscrew.
Spin tops are hard to learn if you aren’t able to be around other players. That basic trick always eluded me until this week I figured out the issue.
I encourage people to keep trying if you are throwing tops, and post here if you are stuck on a trick, you never know what little thing might be the key to success.
