beefcake was kinda a funny, short lived idea that came from modding henry’s vipers if i’m not mistaken … i remember getting a spintastics GWS when they dropped… you could pretty easily make one from a tigershark though if you have enough axle length. it worked pretty well at the time.

Aren’t two half-spec C bearings equivalent in width to a single full-size C bearing? Shouldn’t they produce the same gap width? In any event, I would expect a lot of potential for vibe, for instance if the two bearings don’t line up exactly due to poor bearing seat tolerances.

yes, they are two half spec bearings coupled, this to take advantage of the smoothness of their edges so as to obtain a centering groove like on groove bearings. The yoyo’s gap increases slightly because they not are actually half as wide as a standard C but increase by 3-4 tenths of a mm, a minimum distance that doesn’t require a replacement of the axle. As for the atmosphere, no problem, the two bearings are placed in their respective seats.

Sounds like a potentially interesting hack for a yoyo with too narrow a gap to begin with, e.g., my Dunk.

Half-spec is 2/3s the width of a wide C bearing (2/16" vs 3/16")

Then why are the two bearings always listed as 0.250 x 0.500 x 0.187 vs. 0.125 x 0.500 x 0.187? What part of the bearing is being measured here such that one is exactly half the other?

The OD of both is 0.5"
The ID of both is 0.25"
Wide C bearings are 0.187" wide (3/16"
Slim C bearings are 0.125" wide (1/8")

The listing on YYE for YYF SPEC Half bearing is incorrect. It’s listing a 1/8" inner diameter instead of 1/4", but with the same width as the SPEC large bearing.
