I keep thinking that and being pleasantly surprised. Haven’t thrown the Drifter XL—still boxed—but definitely been surprised by other oversized ones.
Nice! I really want a Crack Coated one.
wow!
Duncan mail day. Really didn’t wanna order more jos on top of the YYF b-grades but couldn’t let those free jos go unclaimed.
Metal Drifter XL, Exit 8, Windrunner 7068, Windrunner 6061, Counter Punch, Raptor
Love that Duncan case. Would have totally snagged it if I didn’t take only a couple of throws on me at a time when I travel.
Wait… What?
The Duncan YOYODAY offer. You basically get the Windrunner 7068, Metal Drifter XL, and Exit 8 for free if you buy $120 of other things.
Ooooooh I see. I’d like to try one of those Metal Drifter XLs. Have you thrown it yet? It looks MONDO
Happy YoYo day everyone!
Nah not yet. Super excited to, though!!!
I need to try it then.
Can you tell me about both throws. I know little about them. What are the differences?
I really want a narwhal engraving on anything. Suppose an og narwhal would be ideal, though
If you go to Nats next month I’ll let you try it there J man
Worlds?
Idk if I’ll make it to world’s, too far a drive from NYC, not sure if buying a plane ticket is worth it for me!
Nooo, Philly is too far away from me.
From appearance wise, the Theodore has a slimline organic butterfly profile while Walter has a modified shape that subtly widens towards the rim but is very much still a high walled yoyo. I couldn’t give you the name of the type of finishes used on them but Google could probably inform you, but the best way to describe Walter’s coating is that akin to a blackboard. Theodore’s finish is is slightly different and lacks the chalkboard style that it’s older brother has and it posessis a satin finish, it’s also darker in colour.
They differ in play too. Walter has those higher walls that punish you for poor throwing off plane and it also feels heavy When it hits the end of the string. The weight distribution helps with spin time and it is still very capable of performing any trick you can throw with it. I must admit I haven’t tried it horizontally but I don’t think it would be well suited for it. Theodore plays very similar to a Flying V if you have tried one of those. It handles shoot the moon more easily and the butterfly shape really does help hitting the string more consistently.
Personally I think they are both fantastic but probably not for everyone. They both excel at responsive play and I’m sure they would be a blast at unresponsive too. The only downside with playing them responsive is that they do need a frequent top up of thick lube. Maybe if they had an A sized bearing this wouldn’t be much of an issue.
I’ve used Walter for longer and I don’t have a favorite yet but Theodore is very hard to put down. Both of them are great throws.
