What did you get in the mail for 2020/2021?

Haven’t thrown it yet, but wow!

It’s an Atmos Projects Cloudberry, first run prototype.

You know it’s a special mail day when I get the ‘good’ camera out…

I recently came into possession of a pretty banged up Citizen (#64). When I posted looking for advice, the incredibly generous @yoyodoc offered to clean it up for me. I expected a quick polish but never in a million years did I think it would look this good. I wish I had better ‘before’ pictures so you all can see just how far it’s come.

Not only does it look better, it plays better too, and no more painful burs!

The Doc is a great member of this community, and it says a lot that he was willing to help out a stranger without asking anything in return. Yoyo people are the best people!

I let out an audible gasp as I rolled down the page.

The doc knows how to operate.

Let us know what you think

Nothing that a couple of buffing wheels and the right compounds can’t cure in a jiffy.

Most interesting thing(to me) about your comment>

I used no buffing wheel and no compounds in the process of restoring the finish on that Citizen.

I think a more accurate statement would have been, ‘Anything is easy if you know how’.

Within the scope of my modding potential, I never consider ‘fixing things in a jiffy’.

I use whatever time it takes to do things correctly.

Hey everybody… thanks for all the likes.

Normally I take more images: before, during and after, mods… But i have been so busy that I only took several random shots.

I will post several that give contrast to the ‘way in/way out appearance.

Then this view is a little more shows the scale of comparison even better.

PS… that 3rd image is actually the one half semi finished/screwed to the unfinished half… just as a reference to see where I was at?

I didn’t even think about it before I posted that particular image up, lol.

Great work! Did you use a lathe with a buffer attached? I’ve seen it being done with a drill press before.

Different materials and different levels of FUBAR often require different procedures.

I personally don’t ‘buff’ titanium. It’s possible… but I find it a waste of time.

Nates’ Citizen was sparked pretty good before he bought it.

The problem with ‘sparked’ yoyos is that you can’t get to the bottom of the gouges without removing some serious material and literally changing the weight of the yo-yo. < Useless option.

With this yo-yo, the primary objective was to ‘increase the beauty factor and reduce the ugly factor’. To remove as little Ti as possible in the process of bringing back the beauty of the yo-yo.

That is one of the greatest things of me doing this stuff for FREE.

People can lower their expectations and not worry about getting their moneys’ worth. Because it isn’t costing them anything, lol.

And then they can be pleasantly surprised when they get better results than they may have even been expecting😳

Kinda crazy that I put myself under pressure to make somebody else happy.

This is a good example. I ask a guy to send me his $300 One Drop yoyo. So I can rejuvenate it for nothing. It could get lost in the mail coming to me. It can get lost on the way back. It can fly off the lathe while spinning at high speed and then I have jacked up someone’s’ yo-yo accidentally while in the process of trying to fix it?

But, I like the ‘mission’. I like the challenge. I like to help people generate a ‘Wow’ now and then and have their throwing energy recharged.

We all take turns trying to help each other. And we all pretty much go about it in different ways.

There are several guys on this forum that are fully capable of doing what I did. I just happened to do this one.

I don’t have the time to do mods for everybody.
I just pick out things that seem to call out to me. I saw Nates’ beat up Citizen and immediately knew I wanted to do good things to it.

It probably helps that I have my own machine shop. Doesn’t hurt for sure.

But no matter what tools you have at your disposal. If you don’t know what you are doing…?

Fortunately, I have been around the block a few times.

I find climbing hills a lot more rewarding than just walking on flat ground…

And… everybody is happy.

Nate is happy. You guys are happy to see a cool restoration. And I am happy that you guys appreciate my effort.

Happy is good…

How does this SB-2 play? I know it’s the Ti edition.

When played with the C-size bearing, it’s a completely legit 1A yoyo with respect to modern standards.
I can’t speak for the responsive ‘modes’ because I suck at that. :stuck_out_tongue:
