my bad @twitch77 I should have said that you are green
Talking of noobs which I am definitely one without a shadow of a doubt.
I just made this thread.
What do you think?

Oh no! lolā¦I bet your heart skipped a few beats!
Iām SO glad no dings or scratches came of this!
haha at this point Iāve given up.
I was super excited to get a Duncan Mayhem. Within the first 5 minutes after getting it, I smacked it into the ground.
My favorite throwā¦my G2 AL7 Bansheeā¦got itās first ding about a month ago lol. It actually didnāt bug me too badly somehow! Itās like I no longer have to ābabyā it so much anymore trying to keep it in mintāish condition. I can play it harder now.
Luckily the yos Iāve dinged up all still play really well and some how none of the ground smashing Iāve done has caused any of them to vibe.
I believe that if I donāt want one of my yos to get scratched or dingedā¦I shouldnāt play it. Dings happen lol. (I do have a few throws in my collection I donāt throw for this reason).
Absolutely the same experience Iāve had switching out the flat bearing with centering bearings in my One Drop Legendary Terrarian and Kuntosh 5000QV.
Thatās pretty awesome! Itās very nice to have a bunch of good quality strings! A couple of members on these forums have spoiled the heck out of me and have sent me some dang nice strings.
This!
This too!
You seem to be really hard on yourself @MoonageMin . But when I think about it, Iām not so sure thatās a bad thing.
I donāt push myself very hard in this hobbyā¦so my progress is super slow. Maybe with you pushing yourself so hard and being hard on yourselfā¦youāll progress at a much quicker pace and become a better player.
I wish I pushed myself harder.
The fear here though is burnout. You seem a lot like me in that you seem like you jump head first into new things and invest a ton of energy and enthusiasm into them. Iād hate for you to keep beating yourself up and being so hard on yourself that it prevents you from just relaxing and having fun in the āmomentā with this hobby.
I read that as āYou seem a lot like me in that you seem like you jump head first into new things and invest a ton of money into them.ā
Thanks @twitch77 I enjoyed reading all your additional thoughts in line with my comments.
Yeah I just like getting better and get enjoyment out of it
I do tend to push myself quite a bit in most things I take on, not just yoyos.
But I am having fun!
A reasonable fear. And one I can relate to.
I throw when the spirit moves me, which means I donāt play for hours and hours a day like some people do. Progress is pretty slow, but I know myself well enough to know that pushing myself to play when Iām not really in the mood wonāt help.
I keep myself engaged in the hobby other ways though. Participating in this forum, for instance. And curating my growing collection. Itās all part of the hobby!
Thatās probably a good thing! It helps you excel and become excellent :D. People canāt reach greatness without pushing themselves!
Itās going to be awesome seeing your progress over the months!
lol /sigh (inside joke!) I mine as well set up a tent on YYEās forumās back lawn for as much time as I spend here! >.<ā If I spent like 1/20th of the amount of time yoing as I spend hereā¦Iād be a pro by now!
This is a huge part of the hobby for me
lol @zslane & @twitch77 I have a brand new yoyo to play with, well 3 in fact with one of them literally being delivered today.
And I am also sitting here typing this message out which right now seems to be more important to me then nailing that Kwyjibo.
wowww, very nice!!! How does it play? Can you compare to something else?
Maybe, just maybe it was the VTWO shredding strings
I just noticed this, the strings not broken, but a relatively new kitty fat string has strands frayed off.
If it is the VTWO cutting strings then just rub the catch zone with soft denim a bit and you shouldnāt have any more problems. If itās the string and you never want to have a string break then switch to Aireticās or One Drop Long Cuts!
What gnome said will help. I think you can also use a scotchbrite as long as youre being gentle.
thank you @TheThrowingGnome, @hobbygod (lol @twitch77).
I just rubbed the VTWO on denim and will try again and see if it does that again
what⦠even is that?!
I recently used flats in two throws for an extended period of time until I got used to them. I think itās not as hard as youāre thinking it is right now. I am not particularly good(or gud either), but I have no trouble using flats. Once you get even mediocre at plane control, the flat is much less of an issue and you can get used to it surprisingly quick. I wouldnāt even call it āhard modeā as zslane says.
I still prefer centering bearings, but I donāt think flats are as difficult to deal with as a lot of people think today.
Not at all! Within 3 or 4 months of starting yoyoing properly from Xmas 2017 I bought a Onedrop Benchmark O 2016 and always kept the flat bearing in, it works just fine and they are fantastic bearings. Youāll definitely benefit from playing them especially as you want to improve your ability by throwing responsive!
Hey man, I had a yo-yo that did this, and it actually got better without doing anything but playing it. It cut through one string, so I just kept an eye on it while playing, and it started to cut the second, but it stopped after a few strands. It never cut through another string again. I would definitely try the denim or scotchbrite though.
Iāll use a centering bearing for now while I am improving on my basics and learning to manage plane control better.
And like Beeeeeebon suggested, I will give it another go 3~4 months from now and reassess and see if I improved
I just rubbed it on my jeans, and Iāll keep an eye out for it.
Itās not that I donāt have enough strings or donāt want broken strings, but itās odd that a string broke yesterday on the first few throws.
And today again on a relatively new kitty fat I installed this morning before leaving home, already a strand has been cut.
It feels smooth to the touch though oddly, I only noticed it because I thought my binds were a bit slippy, and when I had a look I saw the strand, not sure if that causes a slippy bind or its just me though. Probably just a coincidence, but good thing it got me to find the strands shredding before the string actually broke
