Just got my first two DS Platinum bearings in today. I put one in my Free Solo and one in my Reboot. To sum it up, I said my first two because I ordered 3 more. These things are perfect! The Free Solo is dead silent and the Reboot only has a hint of bearing noise. I’m a convert.
Probably on a very very small list of the very best undersize yo-yos ever made by anyone from anywhere.
The General Yo Ministar 2……
I’m not a yo-yo in the pocket kind of guy. But if I was, it would be a no-brainer to say that this is the perfect pocket yo-yo.
The only short coming of that distinction, is that if you had this particular yo-yo, it sure wouldn’t spend much time in your pocket.
It looks pretty much unassuming initially. And before you throw it for the first time, if you just kind of roll it around in your hand as you stare at it and wonder how good it can be…. Because there’s nothing that jumps right out at you that would make you draw the conclusion that it carries any authority. No tri metal, no titanium, no V-shape, no undercut, no visual, rolling thunder, type appearance.
You will shrug your shoulders and shake your head and wonder what’s up with small yo-yos?
Then you put the string on your finger and give it a toss and any questions rolling around in your head will be answered.
And all the answers will be good.
Ernie used to design explosive devices. Now he just makes them.
Coolness….
Ministar2 has been on my short list. I nearly got one on yoyo day but talked myself out of it. kicking myself for that now. Small yo-yos are my jam. That’s a great write up and picture @yoyodoc
The Mini Star 2 is definitely a fun one!
RSMs from @yoyospirit!!! So fun!
I’ve wanted “RSMs” since I got my first SE ~10 years ago! Thank you @yoyospirit!!! They come in at 7g which is even better than I hoped
Very nice.
At least 2/3 are smooth lmao that hybrid curse hitting tho might just have to dye it and call it a case queen
Thank you @OhDavidBowie for the loopers and string. Been really looking for those LP snd loop ups.
Also my sister in law visited Amish country last week and brought me back a wood yoyo. It’s honestly not that great. Will probably pull it apart and add response holes or something and fix the gap size it’s way to wide.
Two nice things in that pic. One looks mahogany
I think it’s a high pressure laminate. It’s an Aiersi (SU-021P), and very well-made for the price. All I’ve done to improve it is lightly sand the corners on the body and swap the open geared tuners with Grover 2b pegs. I have an all-solid concert scale that barely gets taken down from the wall because this budget pineapple soprano simply sounds better. (/Uketalk)
Forgot to post my National YoYo Day haul from the other day! 2023 JDS Genesis & St. Elmo (and 2 DS bearings, not pictured).
I was only gonna cop the Genesis, but at the last minute I threw the St. Elmo in the cart as well, and I’m so glad I did. Turning Point simply doesn’t miss, I’ve seriously never thrown a bad TP. It’s very close in feel to my Palp ES, but is a tick lighter and understandably lacks the spin time of the Palp ES, due to not having any SS rings to juice it up. All good though, I just wanted something that gets me close to that Palp ES feel that I wouldn’t have to worry about knocking around when I’m out and about.
Definitely have some thoughts about the new Genesis as well. Mine came dinged (lmao) but I got it on sale, and it’s minor enough to not wanna go through the hassle of swapping it, especially since I wasn’t planning on keeping it pristine anyways. I was able to try the 2023 Genesis at DXL super quickly and did like it, but it wasn’t until I got my own and spend some time with it that I realized that it feels kinda… cheap? Almost like the quality of aluminum that was used is a bit lower or something, I’m not sure. The original Genesis has a very solid and nice dense feel on the string, and this has a hollow-ness to it (like a Duncan Metal Zero or something lol). Me comparing it to the OG in combination with its slightly decreased weight may be what I’m experiencing. In addition, binds are hella slippy so I’ll probably silicone it a bit later and hope that solves the issues. All that said, and I know this sounds weird, but I actually do really like it. Sure, it’s a bit cheap feeling but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes nothing hits better than some nice and cheap Chicken McNuggets, ya know? It also has more spin power than the St. Elmo due to those thicc rims, and you can move through combos quick with the decreased weight. I feel like this same design tweaked ever so slightly for Titanium would be super baller (yes I know there’s a TiGenesis already, but it’s not the same).
Overall pretty happy with both purchases, but that St. Elmo is in my opinion, is one of the best monometals you can buy brand new right now at a store.
@Owlman - Yeah the 50 pack is bulk priced and comes in the clear pillow box. I’ll see if I can get them to make it more obvious. If you will PM me your address, I’ll send you some tubes and the easy trick for loading them.
I’ve never played a C3, might be time for me to pick one up
If you find it too light, try the flat cap side effects. The feel is going to be closer to pranorama
Hey thanks! I’ve been playing with it and like it a lot. I haven’t messed around with side effects yet but I’ll give it a try.
