I was surprised how quiet it was even without any lube and how crisp binds are. Very similar to the DS Platinum.
I tried some Night Moves and yea its like throwing a rope lol. I got some Slackies and Mowl strings with my order and they’re both kinda similar with the super tight torsion and rope-like feel.
Nightmoves and string theory really bring back the good Angel Hair memories. Loved that stuff.
What’s sad is that as a kid using it, I didn’t fully appreciate it’s unique feel and ability, and just wasted a whole bunch not knowing what the heck was going on with it, and thinking it was garbo until I finally broke one in after like a couple of days of continuous play with it. Then it hit me.
This happened to me too and I’m sorry there is no going back. They feel even better too post wash imo and don’t fray out as much like i’ve had to clean my bearing less since I started using them bc it was always the little bits of frayed string in there messing them up.
My first year of yoyoing I was really into Markmont strings, but at some point I just swapped over to Kitty.
Markmont strings never play the same after a wash imo, they start to get really loose at the bearing. They do feel really nice though, and I still like how they play.
It just feels like it makes more sense to me to use a cheaper and more standard/readily available string. I know I’ll still be able to get something that feels and plays like standard bulk poly in a decade, but I don’t know if I’ll still be able to get markmont strings in a decade+ (and don’t feel like hoarding them)
I personally think that kitty string is just great bulk string for a good price. I always keep at least a 100ct pack with me all the time, and it lasts me a while.
when I find a really good throw then I start using the boutique stuff on it.
I feel like I got fake kittys or these got messed up somehow or something bc the normal kitty strings I have are like unplayable like worse than the magic yoyo strings. I have other bulk strings I like best for 5a and I like bulk string too (throwback cage free is my favorite of the bulk string I’ve tried so far but I wanna try the ones shapapy mentioned now too).
The fancy string add like 3-5% extra performance that only really matters with a handful of tricks, like the difference isn’t really thaaaaaat much. Sometimes just a tiny bit extra can help push a trick into the landing column tho and I like them for that and bc I just like them. It is still my first year tho and maybe I’ll feel different later like how it happened w mable.
I didn’t like the old formula for kitty too much, was a bit too rough for my tastes (same with markmont strings) but their new first class string is pretty good.

I just ordered a bunch of C3 string and I think that’s gonna be my new go to for bulk.
