I ordered this Sochi Loop string in June from YYE with a few other things and immediately lost it. I had assumed I had accidentally thrown it away with the packaging. I just found it wedged between two shoeboxes in my closet

i’ve got alpine borealis and chief and i think alpine plays a lot closer to chief but I can totally see how it can be seen to play like borealis. I think it’s just a little “lighter” or “floatier” on the string than the borealis. Plus the hand catch feels more like chief as well. Alpine is very excellent

Borealis 1 and 2 feel really different if you haven’t played both. I kinda hate how the Borealis 2 didn’t actually number itself in its release, it gets confusing when not specified. Honestly I really wouldn’t say the B1 and B2 are comparable yoyos at all, the hand and play feel is just super different, B2 kills pretty much all the float imo. Alpine is similar to the B1, not B2, but I’d agree with the @pinktweetybird’s comment that it’s closer to the Chief than the B1 in terms of play feel.
Kinda disagree about it feeling like a Chief in the hand though, I think it’s much closer to the B2 in terms of hand feel. The cut in the profile is very noticeably B2 and the rims after the ski jump feel like they flare outwards instead of upwards, again more like the B2 than Chief. The Chief feels almost bubbly in the hand, with multiple convex bumps cushioned against your hand. The B1 feels like an organic with fat rims and a narrow trapeze width, to the point where you can’t even nestle your middle finger at the bottom of the gap. B2 and alpine feel more like a soft and subtle singular curve across the profile.

Deep State in Broken Heart. I can’t believe that, as a mostly responsive player, I’ve waited this long to pick up a Deep State. It feels really awesome in the hand and on the throw. I think I may want to tune it just a touch more responsive, but I’m going to play with it for a while first.

Mine played semi-responsive when I got it, I ended up putting grease in the bearing.
I also have two Deeper States, without any mods one played responsive and the other barely semi-responsive.

The best thrower and nicest guy of all time, @Augie, was kind enough to hook me up with a care package today - a copy of his YYE playing cards and an UPRLD Informel.
He also included a hand-written note and a drawing. Which is how I learned Augie Fash isn’t just a top tier yo-yo competitor, he also has perfect handwriting and can draw. I’m jealous of the amount of talent!
