The Duncan Torque
I got this on sale as a beater to learn 5A on. With its grind-repellant gloss finish and toylike engravings, it didn’t seem like something I’d feel guilty about scuffing.
Two years after forgetting about it, I threw it for 1a, for no other reason than sheer curiosity. Oh, how I misjudged the Torque. It plays with elegance, has a bearing smoother than Casanova, and hits your palm with the “thwack” of a ball in an outfielder’s mitt. I’ll add the Torque to the ever-growing list of reasons why I list my religion as “Duncan monometals” on official documents.
Hahaha it’s a candle powered lava lamp from Mathmos! We wanted something that could go on our little wall shelf without being plugged in, and these looked SICK. Buuut they’re UK based & don’t ship to the US, so my wife and I had to pay someone to proxy ship it here lol… was worth it though!
Wao thats so cool!
Cool mouse. How are you liking that musubi?
I’ll join your religion. Their windrunner (another monometal) is still my go-to.
Musubi is great. The fairly straightforward V is a good shape in general, and first impression… this design seems really stable and a nice size to me. I think the slogan on the box is earned (“Dressel doesn’t miss”). @hobbygod who said it?
Thanks for picking one up Jordan! I wanna say it was one of @MaximShoots @bcorliss3 or @JEA86 that coined the phrase and I ran with it ![]()
@flapjack The shape was a departure from our normal stuff but the soul is definitely still there, and the unique ring construction has a unique aesthetic to it. For a V shape, it shares a lot of qualities with common organic favorites while still being extremely nimble for its size and weight.
I got a B grade Musubi SS and I love that yoyo. I gotta get the AL version eventually but I’m tapped out from nats ![]()
I’m tapped out too. I didn’t go too crazy at nats, just two yoyos, but I went a little HAM before for a grail of mine and just got a bunch of 2a stuff from Japan a few days ago ![]()

I definitely say this a good bit, Dressel has been consistent in his designs even on things which are not typically in my favored flavors
atmos polaris is of another world @rnsy
Cool photo!
Thanks! That starburst was a happy accident. There’s a projector on the table and I was trying to capture the backlit string.
The light on the string pretty cool in play too. It looks like the frequency of the string separates the RGB of the light.
