What are you throwing in 2021?

It was the first yoyo RCS made four years ago. One Drop machined it.

Yeap it is. It wasn’t popular though. I’ve seen it in stock for a 2-3 years after it released.

New print just popped of the build plate. It is very smooth for all the details it has.

My printer suffered a bit getting this printed

Bangarang with rims today. Only thing I can’t do with it that I normally do is grinds. The lightweight means it slows down too much.

So nice and light though.

Just thought I would post my thoughts on this new yoyo from Hydrangea (lisianthus). It’s not a review just some general thoughts I have on the yoyo.

Just to start off I thought I would post a recent video of Naoya Takeuchi competing with it at Japan Nats.

I just did some quick comparisons with other hydrangea throws and my only other full sized steel yoyo. (Quercus, Magnolia, yoyobarista Geisha). Also to note I had a Laurus at one point and while it was good I just didn’t feel like it was worth keeping.

Starting off I think this most resembles the quercus because of the sharper lines and less rim weight. It has an even distribution of weight like the quercus but has a heavier feeling to it. The magnolia is more rim weighted and has softer edges so I wouldn’t even call these similar other than the fact it has the same bell type shape. The steel geisha plays a lot lighter and faster but you can tell it’s lacking rim weight and has a lot of center weight. The lisianthus has a lot more weight making it a little slower but it feels more stable and competitive. Just for reference I used some cheap calipers and the lisianthus has an outer rim thickness of about 2mm and my geisha comes in around 1.6mm.

I also wanted to mention I did a quick sleeper test and I got it to go for about 6min or so.

Even though this is a unique and different yoyo I would probably steer people away from it. While I do like it I think the magnolia and quercus have a better feel when playing.

If you have any questions let me know!

I’ll be giving this Duncan Strix some love tonight. It’s been a while and they really did a good job on this thing.

I have been throwing this all black joyride all week. Its my first new yoyo since ~2011. I must say I am really impressed with how much yoyos have improved. For such a low price too… its amazing

It’s your oak table I’m eying off… That would make some good yoyos.

From 2011ish until 2017, yoyoing was nothing more than a party trick of sorts for me. I would throw just a couple times a year if my days as a “professional yoyoer” came up in conversation at my house. But this same color Strix was my one and only yoyo I used (my old collection was in a closet at my parents house).

Got it at the Duncan kiosk at Disney. Still love it, definitely my favorite Duncan I’ve tried.

Edit: also a rather difficult yoyo to capture an image of on my phone, so very shiny.

That’s beautiful and I went through a similar stretch so I can definitely relate. It’s now my daughter’s favorite yoyo.

If i were to buy a duplicate yoyo, it would be another Day Tripper in gun metal grey that I would dedicate to being my pocket yoyo.
