Thanks! I’m going to follow your guide first and see if that helps. I specifically want it tuned for 0a.
Working on Rancid Milk and Kickflips, respectively
Should hopefully be back at work tomorrow, this ear/ sinus infection has been terrible (have been out since Friday of last week, 8 days so far) but I think I’m pretty much ready to get back to it…
In San Diego found a Kite Shop and had a blast. They actually had a decent selection of yoyos, 1A, 2A and 4A (unfortunately only YYF) but i totally understand why they only carry yyf. But i grabbed one to support the store anyway…..
Antarctica has not gotten enough visits from me.
Also.. the Fora is quickly becoming one of my favourite yoyos.
The short, simple answer is that I wanted a Peak with caps because I am an absolute sucker for a capped yoyo and I always have been.
The longer answer is that in recent years I’ve put old animosities to rest regarding Duncan and my experience working there and with the new management in place I decided that a symbolic public gesture was in order to wrap up that period of my life in a nice little bow by overlapping it with what I’m doing now in a fun way that celebrated both.
I actually turned to Jeffrey Pang to do the design work because I really loved what he did with the Plastic Peak and both the team and I generally feel it’s the best Peak iteration to date. And I know Jeff is a long-time fan of the Freehand, and I wanted this yoyo to be real fan service to the old heads who were there for the heyday of both models.
I don’t design or art direct anything with specs in mind. I’ve never been any good at the math required to calculate how to make a yoyo play the way I want it to, but I am pretty good at saying how I want it to play, and trusting Chris or Jeff to know the math to deliver it.
On the initial phone call with Jeff to ask him to design it, I remember saying that I wanted it to feel like it could be either yoyo if you weren’t paying attention. Which is an impossibly stupid and artsy thing to say to an industrial designer but luckily Jeff understands how to translate my stupidity into something beautiful.
Both the aluminum and plastic versions were originally supposed to have identical profiles, and I still have the plastic prototypes with the correct profile. Duncan changed it in production for reasons I still don’t understand and the end result is that I threw the plastic version one time and have never touched it since, but the aluminum one that we handled production for still sits on my desk and gets used regularly. It’s exactly what I wanted to close the door on the Duncan chapter of my career, and I’m glad we did it.
Well now I need one, thanks Steve
What throw is this? I like the artwork!
unprld hash
UNPRLD Hash! Such a fun yoyo. There are still some B-grades left on the UNPRLD site.
Are the b-grades engraved? I’ve been looking for that blue engraved hash since it released.
Yes, they are engraved! Only the orange ones are unengraved.
Edit: what I thought was a flaw in the engraving might just be an aesthetic choice. If that’s the case, I’m not actually sure why they’re B-grades. Either way, they’re beautiful and dead smooth.
Wait, what? This is printed?! That’s waaaay too clean I thought it was POM. Amazing work, @MinerJ !
