Stumbled on this thread today and decided to check the 7Summits I have in my collection. Turns out the Aconcagua one I bought last year from another member here is fake. I didn’t even know fakes existed so didn’t think to check thoroughly and examine it when it arrived, but now looking at it, so many red flags and so many things are off. Here are some comparisons.
The box is made of a different cardboard and feels thinner. The box itself is also shorter in height. The 7Summits sticker on it is noticeably lower contrast and blurrier. The sticker also has less rounded corners than a real one. Also missing is the hand-written colorway on the side of the box.
The CLYW logomark is thinner all the way around and the laser engraving of Aconcagua is off with each letter spaced further apart and the “g” is not text-aligned properly. The most obvious tell is the finish. It feels like a regular anodized 6061, not a 7075 pyramatte finish which is shinier in appearance and smoother to the touch.
Anyways, pretty disappointed and kicking myself for only discovering it now. Hope these photos will help others who may need some reference photos of genuine 7Summits and a fake one. Back to the hunt.
Wow that really sucks. Who did you purchase this from? Were they aware that it’s a fake? Assuming they probably weren’t aware but pretty wild to see yo-yos being counterfeited
Yeah, I know. I didn’t properly check it because I didn’t know fakes existed and had no reason to suspect anything. It went straight to my display after receiving it.
