TAW 2026 Week 3 -Zach Gormley Star Trick
Too cold to film outside ![]()

Alright, getting back to a Wednesday routine for these, I found this cabin tutorial and really liked it because;
-
itās a repeater
-
its relatively simple ( Houdini mount, a double on trapeze, unwind back to Houdini, transition to kamikaze mount, and a hop and thumb pluck right back to houdini.)
Looks complicated, but I think itās easy once itās slowed down and broken down.
Tips:
-
Put the video at .5 or .75 speed at the 16 second mark, really slows it down and helps to isolate each element
-
for me, when doing the hop that brings you back to Houdini, it made it easier to catch and start another roll the higher you hop your hands. You can see in the video Earnest hops it pretty high as well, (he touches hands like in an eli hop and uses his thumb to grab the string for the dismount).
Hereās a prerequisites:
Oooh, this one looks really fun. Iām looking forward to giving it a try tomorrow. Thanks for your work picking and posting these!
One of my favorite tricks is kamikaze, so this came really quickly. I threw in 1/2 a cup of rancid milk at the end.
Yoyo: Featherspin Corvus.
(Bonkers Repeater)
Catching up. Work is killing my throw time. Learned this trick a couple years back on TaW but didnāt come close so Iām happy to have figured out out. My friend showed me zerber a while back and i enjoy throwing it into combos when possible.
Working on white Buddha again, always have trouble with that last step but if i land it Iāll try to film it.
First time recording in the new place I donāt really know where to put the camera. Still needs some cleaning up but I wanted to get something in here before tmrw. Though now I see itās posted already so it doesnāt matter lol
idk if this is a better spot prolly not.
Another fun one.
Itās cold outside. Itās cold inside too! Very productive yoyo weekend! Thank you.
Best version of white budda Iāve thrown and actually got it on camera so BAM! That last element is very tricky.
Another banger, still working on flow/smoothing tricks out- but this quickly became one of my favorites. Thereās just something relaxing about running a flashy looking repeater trick multiple times in a row.
This wasnāt too bad to figure out, my main tips would be to make sure your string is long enough and make sure to keep the strings roughly lined up- I often miss the ācatchā to Kamikaze if that loop is leaning too far forward or backwards so that either the top or bottom ends up not getting caught in the yoyo.
As was mentioned before, when going back to Houdini you want the yoyo to go as high as possible (without bouncing off the strings). Lifting your hands slightly with that can help give a bit of extra time for that transition.
TAW 2026 Week 4 - Bonkers
Sorry for the sniffling and heavy breathing, my son has passed the flu onto me #wintersucks
Happy February! We thought we would try having a āthemeā for the month, where we focus on one element/style for all 4 or 5 tricks. This month weāve got a couple of tricks based on boingy-boing! To get started with these you should be able to get into a split bottom mount.
For week 1, we gotta do the original boingy-boing(y). There are a lot of tutorials out there, hereās a good one that covers some common mistakes/tips:
If you can already do the standard boings, feel free to start working on/post the over-under variation:
Have fun!
Boingy Boingy is always good to practice. Been trying to work on doc pops inverted Boingy which is nutty. Hereās a post with a responsive slim which is great to clean up any elements. And a over under with a unresponsive. Looking forward to a Boingy Boingy month!
Working on a flashy entry to split bottom mount. Butā¦.
I smash my Wizard into the ground.
Grateful that itās a clear yoyo, they hide dings so well. Splashes are a close second for battle scars.
TaW week 5 - Boingy Boing
This is from last yearās TaW, super busy week so Iām probably not going to get a chance to film a new version (over-under boings still elude me after several years of trying).
This trick used to frustrate me a ton, first attempted this back in 2011 shortly after buying my brother and I our first high end yoyos. Told him about the trick and what it was supposed to do and he got it right away. Me, nope. Finding that rhythm just wasnāt happening. One thing that helped me learn this back then was including this extra roll that immediately sets you up for a solid first boing. Over Unders clicked in a few years ago. Protrusions are a good ānext stepā once you got Over Unders down.
