Week 46 Matthew Poon’s Slack Trick

I decided to learn a new trick with my new yoyo. It’s a Banger by General-Yo, which I won here on the forum.

I hope to learn a couple more tricks before the end of the year.

Merry Christmas everyone! :christmas_tree:

Thanks to everyone who supports this thread with tutorials and posts!

Hey everyone, is there a 2026 trick a week thread yet, and if not does anyone know if there are plans for one?

Thomas, Charlie, and I are all busy with real life stuff and are not going to run it for another year. I do think it can be a great resource for people but participation last year wasn’t very good tbh and running TaW is a lot of work. More work than people realize.

If you want there to be a 2026 TaW thread, I strongly encourage you to start it up and put out a call to see if you can find anyone else to help you. I can pass along some info about what works and what doesn’t work as well if you want, but yeah I don’t think any of us are able to commit to running the thread for another year.

yea sry, like Henry said, life is cranking up on me and i don’t wanna overextend. it was an incredibly fun year, though and i agree with Henry that both participating and running TAW can be an incredible learning experience. i 100% believe I wouldn’t be as far along as i am without it. the main benefit being pushing outside comfort zones. its strangely encouraging knowing others are potentially struggling with the same thing and the cooperative effort of helping each other get there every week is very rewarding.

if someone does get it back up for 26 i will do my best to follow along and participate as time permits. I also want to echo what Henry said about being open to anyone that may want to start it up reaching out for resources. good luck and happy learning in 26, whatever form that takes

Huge thanks to @Splizacular @GTDropKnot and @digitalcharlie for a great year. I really appreciate all the time and effort you guys put in TaW. I can’t commit to running this thread, but I’d be more than happy to help with trick ideas. Thanks again! :victory_hand:

I want to put out there that I enjoyed watching the videos, and tutorials you guys put out. Totally get that running it was a big endeavor. Finding a trick, a good tutorial for it, and learning 52 tricks in 52 weeks is HARD. Just the time dedicated to doing it if significant. A lot of the stuff you guys put out had really cool elements that I haven’t explored yet. But, even though I only posted for spirit bomb, I still work on rancid milk, candy rain, and scarlet begonias. Your effort has been seen, and I want to recognize it.

Question: Do you guys have a google sheet with the videos posted, so that people can use your stuff as an archive? I was planning or trying to participate and do a trick a month with you guys for the next year, just because I’m a slow learner, and I don’t enjoy trying to work through some tutorials.
Edit: the list at the top has it. All I had to do is do some looking.

I always enjoy popping in. Maybe a rotating pre planned schedule of multiple people to pick a trick once a week that would work easier to keep it going. If even 4 people rotated it would only be 13 different tricks to pick out. I never been big on filming myself yoyoing cause I just get frustrated but I always enjoyed TaW and appreciate everyone that has kept it running the last couple years.

Multiple people actually adds to the issues more than it helps. It adds another step of discussion to the routine. Checking to see if the others think the tutorials are a good fit and would be down to learn them earlier in the week, and then actually making sure things get posted on the date. It also just requires more people to want to actively participate and post every week.

Especially as participation wanes after a few months, picking tutorials everybody is actually interested in/capable of learning is important.

Eh I do think it could work fine if y’all just skip this second part. What we did at the end of last year like after i hopped in to help was just switch off and each person picked the trick without a discussion. Sometimes someone would come to the group chat to ask for other opinions but it wasn’t really like a round table type decision. I do see how that can be a problem like people would need to really be reliable.

True I could see that. It just doesn’t seem like there’s one person motivated to run the whole thing alone, which I completely understand. Im just tryin to think of alternatives to keep it going at the bare minimum for now until maybe someone is motivated to run the whole thing. I think it could work without a chat/discussion to make decisions. Just a thought though.

Yo you can also find links to the threads for past years at the top and those all have lists of tricks at the top as well so you can find even more cool tricks to learn eventually.

I would be interested but I’m afraid I’m not good enough learn a trick a week to demonstrate, nor do I feel I’m knowledgeable enough to pick out good tricks every week but maybe I could figure something out where I could take nominations for a trick and then I could learn it with everyone, wouldn’t be the same but it might be fun.

I also feel this way. I would really love to be a part of this, but I’m staring down the barrel of a legitimate career change next month that involves a ton of travel so…. I’m afraid to commit haha. Heck, I struggle to keep up with any of the TaW tricks anyway, no way I could lead lol
