Trick-a-Week 2025- #30 Kira's Slack Combo

Cool I like these elements a lot. The construction is a bit funky like a couple spots don’t really flow together naturally but it is a fun combo w/e.

Kamikaze mount, Black Hop elements, Ripcord w/ Jade Whip, then another Jade Whip, topped off with a Brent Stole… hot diggity, that’s wild!

The two hook elements remind me of i think it was takeshi hooks if I’m correct, I believe it had one hook elements with another one, Id I get the name wrong that’s my bad

Close enough w all the element naming hah i am very loose w the naming stuff except I do wanna note it ends w a ninja vanish vs a brent stole bc those are more classic and different in how theyre formed, even if they both result in gts…seriously the names don’t really matter though…
For fun i would say trapeze, whip to kamikaze, hop and pluck to houdini, hop and undercut, meta slack thing, drop string, roll and pick up string for houdini, gormley tension hook, pick up string and that one takeshi slack, roll and drop string to brother, ninja vanish, hop out to trapeze.
Prolly a million ways to name all these elements tho so its w/e and they are a good bunch i like them bc theyre fun and satisfying to do.

This is for sure a more accurate description. I’ll add that “pluck to houdini” is also called a “red clover pop.” The meta slack thing is a “nagao hop” but it is probably predates that trick.

I agree that naming doesn’t matter all that much but it is useful to have a shared terminology that others can relate to. There is definitely no jade whips or brent stoles in this combo and I think it would confuse most players by describing the elements like that. But those same players could probably figure out the combo pretty quickly just by watching it be performed.

How do you learn these tricks so quickly?

Some of them I learned already at one point. This last one has a bunch of elements I auto pilot all the time so I just had to rearrange them and figure out the couple things I didnt know yet. Lots of the tricks are pretty accessible like do not require me to grind difficult elements so it’s kind of like sight reading a piece of music or something and I mainly try to remember what comes next and transition smoothly ish between the elements. The main thing is that I have been doing TaW for a while and it has gotten way way way easier to figure out tricks after learning a lot of tricks from tutorials. Also just learning a lot of tricks in general has helped a ton I think. At this point, tricks at this level don’t feel totally new very often like there is some familiarity with other stuff I have learned. It’s kind of like a snowball effect where it just got easier as I built up my yocabulary. Idk learning tricks is a skill in itself imo and I have been able to improve at it and believe that other ppl can improve at it also if they learn alot of tricks. I dont mean grinding them for weeks so they’re exceptionally polished just like figuring them out and trying to be able to get through them decently smooth.

No offense taken! I mean the 4th move, the one after the black hop chop move…

I have procrastinated learning nagao hops because it never clicked. What has been working for me is to move TH up and at the same time release the slack from NTH. As you release move NTH toward and below TH. Practice without the chop and watch the slack to see how it flys. Adjust your timing and positioning when you are comfortable and introduce the chop. Hopefully this makes sense.

Okay so this one is exceptionally hard for me to explain but im going to do my best. try not to focus on the slack, focus on pinwheeling the yoyo around and then reaching over and undercutting. I do a light pinch with th index for a split second but I dont think that is necessary, just makes it easier. Also having the string on th pretty far back helps. There is a slack but barely and I show that at the beginning of the vid (try to do just that like exactly how i show in the vid, just release and feel how the string just moves around), it is basically just releasing the string off nth and my advice is to try not to think about it too much. There is also a bit of timing where you kind of like delay reaching over for a second so there is tension formed against nth index and that helps pop the string off. You want to be very efficient with your movements which is why I’m saying just focus on pin wheeling and then reaching over because it is easy to add unnecessary movements that will mess it up. Th basically just moves like up to get the yoyo to pinwheel and nth doesnt move at all for a sec and then reaches over and undercuts. Just aim for very simple movements and yo I realize this is a bad explanation but I hope it helps. Let me know if not though and I can try to brainstorm more.

Thanks for the video, I’m going to work on this later tonight… I feel like my brain understands what is going on, but my body won’t listen :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Finally getting the Nagao hop down. Not sure about the flow of some of the elements for me, so I did my best. I’d probably move some stuff around in the future. It’s pretty easy to squeeze a Takeshi bounce or supercharger in here at different places.
