Couldn’t wrap up the year without doing a trick with a toss. None of the individual parts of this trick are incredibly complex, but the whole thing together is just a good roll-y time. It’s also very distinctly in two parts, so if you’re new to either of the chopsticks-like elements they’re easy to isolate.
Also, as I start planning for next year’s thread, I’d love a little bit of feedback:
The tricks were too easy
The tricks were about right
The tricks were too hard

whew! started going over this one with my coffee. little tricky at first, but interesting mounts and transitions, good one!
since we’re wrapping this one up, poll and all, i just wanna say big thanks to @digitalcharlie and @GTDropKnot for putting this together this year. it takes work and effort to keep the tricks flowing every week, plus filming and helping when any of us have had trouble. yall are goats
also thanks to you other participants for jumping in and helping out too! i jumped on this train pretty late but I’ve had a blast learning these last few with all of yall and I’m really looking forward to '25
That being said I want to say what a wonderful thing you’ve guys done with this thread. Promoting so many creators on here and sharing tuts to help people learn have been a big help in the scene! Ik it helped me a looot since the first trick of the week released. Thanks you
You said a mouthful, @Splizacular. Tons of thanks and gratitude to @GTDropKnot and @digitalcharlie for all the hard work! This thread has definitely improved my playing and forced me out of my comfort zone. Happy Holidays to everyone and Happy Throwing!
I’ve only just begun suicides and they usually result in me grabbing the closed loop in my fist so my yoyo doesn’t plow into the floor lol so i wouldn’t say I’m struggling yet, but any advice ahead of schedule might save me some headache
Yeah so there’s like a feel to it where you slightly pull away from the yoyo to open up the slack and you want to do that at the right moment and not too early so it’s easier to hit. Also try to toss the yoyo right by where your finger is so you don’t have to track it much.
You can see how kentaro mannen pulls away to open up the loop really clear right here.
Also this next trick is hard like not ez at all but if y’all learn it, you’ll have really good control over how the loop opening works so knowing it will def help your suicides.
Also good to get in the habit of just using nth index so youre not locking in bad habits like catching the loop or sticking out all your fingers. Just be confident and yall will crush it. Just looks really clean if only the index is out.
welp i got this one cept the suicide. I’ve thrown a LOT of almost suicides lol gonna get it though. this is a very fun trick!
edit: got it! imma clean it up before filming. just wanted to leave this here. it talks about 2 diff tosses and one releases as yoyo is on its upward trajectory and that helped a ton
The upward piece also helps a ton for more advanced versions - you can really tell the difference with the 1.5 version. If I don’t angle up a bit I basically can’t do it.
well imma need to keep working on my suicides. right now i get it sometimes but more often i either underthrow it and have to do this cheater suicide, or i overthrow it and I’m chasing the loop out of frame lol but anyway this is how far i got over the week
also, dude ur suicide looks tight! mine are getting better. i realized i was making the two sides of the string even right before the toss, which was def not the right proportion
