What… what are you looking at @Genki? Yoyofactory only lists black, sliver, and aqua as the available colors.

Oh, sorry I was referring to the black with gold rims Shutter Wide Angle. There is no such thing as rose gold.
(I need to drink more coffee this morning…)

Aqua should be gone by noon with only 1 left. Glad I copped mine about 11pm MST last night. I didn’t think these would last too long.

Am I the only one ogling the black colorway? I mean, totally fine by me if they’re still in stock by the time I pull the trigger on one :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: but IMO it’s a classy aesthetic

Sell rate is instructive. I don’t think we need any further evidence that aqua is Best Color.

I don’t feel bad for him. He knew what he was getting into when he started doing Shutter.

And I just got paid for my BST yo-yos… literally minutes too late to get the last Aqua. Not. Even. Exaggerating. I was waiting for the payment to show up on PayPal, hit reload on YYE right after it did, and it and it was gone.

I’ll be in the corner pouting for the rest of the day.

My thoughts:

I was initially hyped but a little skeptical, given the price and my experience with rim weighted bimetals. But this yoyo definitely avoids the pitfall of feeling too heavy on the string. Despite being heavier than the Bliss, this yoyo doesn’t feel nearly as heavy on the string. I think this comes down to the use of 6061 instead of 7068/75. AFAIK it’s harder to manufacture smooth bimetals the wider they are, I’m not sure if that factors into the material choice here, but I know the Grasshopper GTX is 6061 and also felt a lot better than 7068/75 bimetals I’ve tried.

It definitely has that solid, powerful bimetal feeling but is much easier to play fast and has a tiny bit of float to it. Changes direction incredibly easy, the only bimetals I’ve owned that have moved faster have sacrificed a lot of power and stability in comparison.

And this is more subjective, but I think this might be the most beautiful shape I’ve ever seen. It’s incredible just how much the alterations to the Shutter shape streamline it. This is visually the most ideal iteration of the shape. It’s a little less chunky looking and more v shaped. It’s just a gorgeous series of cuts.

I’m curious to see someone who has used high end Japanese bimetals weigh in on how this compares.

This might be a weird question but how tight are the bearing seats?

On my Meerkat and my Wangle World Champion Ed, the bearing seats were both super tight. On the Wangle I had to employ the freezer trick, and removing the bearing scraped off the bearing post’s ano something fierce. It’s been an issue with a lot of my YYFs, and it’s kinda turning me off to the brand.

As long as it’s not loose(as in has room to wiggle on the post) after the ano is scraped off, I wouldn’t worry about it. I have a few throws that are almost ano free on the posts and they’re still as smooth as new.

Really the only brand that does a good job with the tolerances on their bearing posts is One Drop. If I pulled apart a OD and it stripped the ano off the post I’d be concerned.

I’m not worried so much as irritated when it happens. It’s a pet peeve of mine, and I shouldn’t have to fight my throw just to get at the bearing. Not on an A-grade. Not on a $50+ throw.

I like how G2 does it. The bearings press firmly into place but come off easily with a bearing tool or pliers. The way OD does it is awful convenient but I actually wish they were a touch tighter.

I didn’t say you should have too. It’s funny, that’s basically what I said when I emailed YYE a few weeks ago when I couldn’t get the bearing off a new $100 throw. I was just asking if I could swap it or if I should contact the manufacturer, but I eventually got it off… after over 2 hours of working on it.

The problem is, that’s just how it is. The only manufacturer that has machining/anodizing tolerances good enough to prevent this MOST of the time is OD. Did you see the thread where Dave from OD talks about this? It increases to cost of their throws :slightly_frowning_face: If it’s made in China, then the only way companies, such as YYF, and even G2, can prevent this problem is if they mark a really high percentage of their yo-yos as b-grade stock. But since they’re also assembled in China, this isn’t something they can prevent at all right now.

Even G2 has this problem. There are plenty of results on google specifically about G2 yo-yos with bearings stuck on the post. Maybe you’ve just been lucky with G2. I’ve personally never had a problem with YYF—I’ve had other problems, but not with bearing posts.
