The Jungle (house plant collector thread)

I searched and didn’t see a houseplant thread anywhere. I collect philodendrons and a few hoya with a couple other random scattered plants (1 amydrium, 1 alocasia, 2 monstera, a variegated rhaphidophora tetrasperma that’s finally taking off and the cuttings are alive!)

I wanted to make a thread to post about my plants and to discuss stuff like soil mix and etc if anyone else keeps plants. Please share pics if you do!

Recently I bought a bunch of unrooted P. Florida Beauty and they’re getting somewhere!

one has enough roots for dirt and the others are still in water.

P. Spiritus Sancti was one of my grail plants. These used to be super rare, like 1k+ for a small one like this, and thanks to the wonders of cloning and tissue culture, I got one for 50 bucks this spring. Its first leaf in my house is super long!

mature leaf on my big P. Billietiae. I’ve had this for 5 years and hopefully it will flower sometime in the next couple years because my Red Congo flowers every year and I wanna cross pollinate them.

This is the only social media I use anymore and I would barely call hobby forums social media. It’s just super chill here and nothing feels like a competition, we’re all just hangin out!

I’ll get photos of my only long term plant, a Jade Bonsai I’ve had for like 10 years now that I picked up from Walmart for $5

I’ve had it twice as long as I’ve lived in my current home lol

Yooo I got a ton of houseplants! I recently pulled all my succulents off their shelves to sweep up and repot a couple and they were looking crazyyyy hah! I only have windows for them to grow in so they do alot of reaching and i hadn’t been trimming them to keep them nice and tight. Also I let them grow across multiple pots. I took pics and made an imgur post of the weird ones when i pulled them out.

Also got an orchid and a ficus to bonsai recently.
Here is some more pics of my plant bros.

They’re excellent! Despite living in the desert I am horrible with succulents lol

Love the leggy bois too! The super long ones in the last pic are so fun. You could spread them out more from the window if you put grow lights on timers. I’ve had GE LED lights on for 6-8 hours a day for 5 years going strong. I couldn’t have so many big bois in just my one little south window

man i love orchids! they’re so fun to grow and the flowers are just unmatched. only thing I’ve ever had that came close was a night blooming cereus, which is probably my all time favorite flowering plant. for anyone not familiar there is a species that only blooms at night for one night only. by daybreak the flowers are wilted and dying. but let me tell you, it gives that one night everything it’s got! this includes fragrance. it can be overpowering in small spaces. when mine hit, i could smell them from anywhere outside my house

We also seem to have unbelievable success with this spider plant, grows like crazy, we’ve had to split it up several times

It’s even flowered a few times

I LOVE HOYAS!!!

I used to have a jungle. Like 80 plants then my disability struck and I couldn’t care for them like they needed anymore. Lots of exotics and rare philodendrons died. My Hoyas, cactus, and a few monstera and pothos lived on as they are lower maintenance.

@GTDropKnot the one on the left here is the pink cereus variety that lasts more than one night. it’s just two cuttings i got from a friend.
the “Queen of the Night” variety is white with a hint of yellow in the center and the flowers are big. they propgate extremely well and i highly recommend finding one

my oldest hoya (Obovata) before a recent repot with a bonus kitty walkin by.

Me too! They’re so easy. I love that I can just go squeeze the leaves and see if they’re soft.
