The "I Finally Landed It!" Thread

You’re ready for combos already. Piece that together with cold fusion or some other trick/element you like.

Kwyjibo >> Cold Fusion is practically mandatory.

I’m stuck at about 2% success rate. I just can’t quite get that big slack loop to happen most of the time. And when I do get it I have no idea what I did different.

I think Kwyjibo >> Dr. Strange is pretty cool too! They look great together because they both involve crossing the arms.

I find that when I reach about 30-50%, 90%+ is only a bit of practice away. You’ve got it down, just need to build up the muscle memory some more.

Sometimes I find it helps to take a short break when I hit about 50% to prevent bad habits from forming. Works for me anyway.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I’m working on other tricks at the moment and giving Kwyjibo a rest. Spent too many hours on it and a little Kwyjibo’ed out at the moment

I understand man kwyjibo took me 5 months to get and once I got it I don’t think I did for another few months

Thanks Ma Goose,
That made me feel better, not because it took you a long time lol
Because if someone with your level, took 5 months to master it back then that’s hopeful that over time I can also make an awesome video like you posted yesterday.
How long did it take for you (I know everyone’s different etc) from there to that video?

year and a half but im homeschooled so any chance I got to throw I was and when I moved to NC I had no friends so I got way more time then a lot of people but no matter what skill level your at, if you put time into it and get creative and you can wow anybody the main thing is make easy tricks look good then they will look very hard and try different tricks like behind the back, neck tricks, arm tricks etc…

haha it is SO hard not to compare myself to others! It’s very frustrating as I feel like I’m a SUPER slow learner compared to most.

But to be honest…I really don’t put a ton of time into practicing…I don’t really push myself very hard. So no wonder I’m slow to progress!

I used to yo-yo an hour+ every day. Now with the new kid that’s cut to an average of about 15 minutes :face_with_raised_eyebrow:. I still learn new tricks, and in fact I can do a lot more than a year ago, but I was so much better at just playing and building combos on the fly back then.

Woo! Finally got it!

My tips are first to swing and release the non-throw hand so that the yoyo is going straight up and not up and away to the right, second is to cradle the string from the throw hand and the very back of the thumb in order to separate the two strings and open up the loop as it spins around.
And also don’t pull too earlier on your non throw hand, that will also shrink the loop. Also pull back a little with your non throw hand if the loop is coming around and hitting the string and did not get under the yoyo.

I can hit beefhook pretty consistently and when I was learning it putting my throwhand higher than the nth helped a lot. Also try not to separate your hands a lot, and try to release the string before it touches your throwhand

This was a cool video! This trick looks like it’s magic to me! I loved this viewing angle!

And you make it look so easy!
Of course it helps that you’ve got the mutant ability to slow down time like you did in the video!
lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks guys, @feryuweryu and @SirDarverok. I was working on it late last night, and I started to see this a tiny bit but wasn’t at all sure about the specifics. This is super helpful  Even more so because I can use it to adjust what I was starting to learn last night.

Your video is fantastic. I haven’t seen it from that angle before. :+1:

Do you remember the stuff you come up with day to day?
I figure out little combos, and forget about them.

I like combos because you get to practice three tricks and the moves in one throw. Especially fun if you can regen from front style to side style.

Lately I find myself doing this a lot, regens feel good when you hit them smoothly.

Lol, I always forget them if I miss a day or two. I was working on a trick and a combo a few weeks ago, and they were getting pretty decent and I had like 3 or 4 variations of both I was toying with… Then I got gout and had to stay off my feet, but I kept playing like a few minutes a day, till I finally just had to stop completely for a few days… and then it was gone. All gone. So frustrating.
