Twisting it tighter will make your string thinner. Also, try using less thread in your string.

Will twisting it tighter make it more bouncy?

Generally

What is the average longevity of home made string I’m sure it depends on the material used and I sent a guy some 100% poly and he said it didn’t last him a day any tricks or tips

  1. Well it depends some strings will last you forever and some won’t depending on how much play. A light play will let your string last because it won’t wear it down where as a lot of play is the complete opposite. I could easily go through five strings in about two hours if I played nonstop and really hard.
2.material is also a large factor in string making. A mediocre thread is going to produce mediocre string, so you only get out what you put in. If you want a longer lasting string you are going to want to a higher quality thread that wont break when you tug on it and durable enough to endure a little weathering. A good all around company that makes high quality thread is Coats & Clark, its also available in most stores that carry sewing supplies. I like to use Coats & Clark 100% trilobal polyester ,and Coats &Clark polyester covered polyester.

I have yet to try Trilobal! But to add on what he said^^^ Generally the slick threads (like trilobal, embroidery, etc.) last longer than softer threads like serger thread.

add to what he said^^ but don’t think soft is bad it’s well soft! And when you put slick and soft together you get a nice string that doesn’t give that much string burn. So here’s a note if you wanna use a soft not super strong thread you are going to need to reinforce it with something that is a little sturdier so you can make a balanced string.

If you haven’t used Trilobal yet what are Panthers made of… Some sort of magical thread?

A very special slick thread from the jungles of panama (or at least I like to think that is where they are from) :stuck_out_tongue:

you should mix it with unicorn hair and tyvian grass

all I have left is Sasquatch and yeti hair :stuck_out_tongue:

Bummer man :frowning:

Anybody know how the Boutique Bundles are coming?

Nearly done.
Andre has almost all in hand, just waiting on artwork.

Sweet!

Been a while since this thread was active. Anybody make any string anymore?

As summer draws to a close REAL LIFE (school, fall) raises its head and pulls us in other directions.
I have huge news but it’s still pending a few more bits and parts before I announce it.

Keep twisting, even if your volume decreases.

You mean there’s other things to life than making yoyo strings??? :o
