I remember very clearly, the day I drove up North to ‘acquire’ Codings’ 500+ yo-yo collection, as we were packing everything up, he picked up the Tiss Hummingbird and said, ‘Check out this beauty. It’s really good’.
Obviously, adding his 500 something yo-yos to the approx. 1000 I already had, pretty much identified me as a Yo-yo Cart, minus the cart, lol.
I was so tired from driving back home(several hundred miles), that I just went to sleep.
In the morning, pretty much within 10 minutes of getting up, I decided to toss a few of my new crew…
I didn’t reach for anything in particular. At least half the yo-yos were wrapped in paper towels and the other half sat in their wooden yo-yo display crates. So, I didn’t really know what I was grabbing until I unwrapped it.
About 4 or so yo-yos into my morning fun, I unwrapped a paper towel and was holding the Tiss Hummingbird. The visual impact was Stunning. The feel in the hand, excellent. It had a white ceramic bearing which was quite a contrast from the torched coloring.
On the very first throw, I knew it was going to hard to ‘Top’. I just play at an average skill level, but I have certainly thrown hundreds of yo-yos over the last few decades and have a pretty good feel in distinguishing the Gems from the Lemons.
I have some pretty amazing yo-yos, I would say. Dozens and dozens……
I’ve had the Tiss for about 3 something years no. And during that period, I have added many more yo-yos to the herd.
I still don’t think I have a better playing yoyo(in my opinion). It is Superb.
Interestingly, the closest thing to it…. Maybe almost ‘a tie’ is also a Yoyofriends yo-yo. The magnesium Gyrfalcon.
But, this Tiss Hummingbird is something else. If I didn’t already have one, I would jump on this one from a considerable height without a parachute!
