Initial impressions are GOOD!

I put the second pad in and strung it up with some ThrowYo Nectars. The Cotton/Poly blend and cork are a pleasure for response!

The bearing is noisy. Compared to a Ti Confusion, El Tio and Ti Respawn, this wins the noisy award. Respawn and Tio are silent, with confusion having a little noise. I did try to put some V4M oil in the bearing. It did help a little.

Maybe because of the “Loose” post on this one?

I am really enjoying the shape, response and feel on it. Will be playing it more and will update after more time with it.

I don’t think so, it’s the same with all units. I’m rather surprised at how loud those bearings are considering the source, and titanium is already known for ringing. I’m sure the .5mm walls it’s got in places aren’t helping things either. They’re probably magnifying the noise lol

I have tossed those bearings into my OG BBGT and I hear the same kind of noise, too. I might swap to an industrial bearing with a better ABEC tolerance for retail depending on what kind of price I can get from Misumi. I have one in the V1 unit I still have and even after washing out all of the factory lube it’s still surprisingly quiet.

As someone who hates bearing noises intensely it sounds like I’ll be throwing one of those Ultem blanks in mine right away haha.

Mine arrived today, and I’m thrilled with it so far. I got unit #2. Minor witness mark on OD, and a tight bearing post.

I’ve only had about 10 min of throwing it, but initial impressions are very good. It was very unresponsive (and loud) with the stock flat bearing, but I swapped in a greased bearing and the response is near ideal now, and it’s much quieter. It’s comfortable in the hand, has a forgiving catch zone, and feels well balanced. It’s just a hair heavier than I prefer, but I’m getting used to it, and the extra weight is pushing me towards slightly different tricks where the extra spin time is helpful.

After playing the prototype at nationals I knew I was going to love this and it isn’t disappointing at all.

I futzed with that one for a while and I couldn’t figure out why it’s unresponsive. It measures identically enough to all the others, it’s just kinda weird in that it’s the only one that wasn’t reliably responsive with the flat.

I have no idea why the NSK flats are so noisy. Even the center trac bearings I got are way quieter. I went back to the V1 that’s got an industrial A bearing (also NSK made) and it’s QUIET. I posted the comparison in the video above. I have no clue why the NSK flat A’s are summoning the screams of the damned but I didn’t really pay attention to it in relation to other bearings until someone mentioned it.

That’s super nice to hear! Big point for these is that I think the V2.1’s are more properly responsive (save for unit 2’s weird refusal to work with the included bearing) compared to the V2.0’s. Also I got rid of the extra 3-ish grams that the ones you got to play at nationals had.

I’ve messed with all sorts of A bearings for my 3D printed throws, and for reliable response long term while still having good spin times, cheap ABEC-5 flats with rubber shields seem to work best for me. A drop of thick lube gives it good response, and the rubber shields keep the lube in place even after plenty of use and abuse. The rubber shields also help dampen noise, for those who care about that.

After playing it for a day I think my only complaint is just the noise, with the centertrac bearing my unit is so loud it’s uncomfortable to use indoors :stuck_out_tongue:, the flat bearing is a bit quieter but not by a significant margin, ended up packing a bunch of old yomega brain lube in and that took it down to “loud by normal standards” (think like a hybrid yoyo with a loud bearing) but not “hearing protection mandatory”

I wonder if it’s possible to 3d print a TPU ring or use an O ring that dampens the sound a bit, since in my head the extremely thin walls are the source of the issue (but I am not a machinist or a physicist)

Other than that I’ve got the response dialed in the way I like it, there’s this ancient trick called ‘spank the baby’ where you slap the back of your throwhand with your non throwhand and the jolt causes the yoyo to respond, I like my responsiveness setup so that this trick works every time but doesn’t snag on simple string tricks (my go to for testing is a triple-on trapese). Love the attention to detail in the machining, no sharp or uncomfortable edges anywhere, pads both sit at the right height, etc.

I got #10! With the stock bearing it was actually 100% unresponsive still :joy: lube did fix that but since it was still on the noisy end I took one of my Ultem blanks and slapped it in there. That made it quieter. Not silent, but tolerable to my autistic ears.

Now that it’s been pointed out to me I feel like it’s just getting louder and louder every time I throw the thing around >_>

That’s kinda surprising to hear. My units are considerably louder with the A bearings… Super weird.

In theory those would be more pricey than ABEC-1? I’ll get some more of the silent ABEC-1 bearings I got through Misumi a while back, see how they compare.

Huh… I only ran into 2 of them being difficult to respond when I was testing. That said, when I was doing my throw tests I kept the backing on the second pad. Might have made the response a bit stronger.

Interesting… I would have assumed making it a fixie would make it damn near silent

yeah bearing started off quiet, got VERY loud very quickly lol. the ratio of inner/outer race diameter, polished outer race and shape of the slope on the very edge of the outer race remind me of one drop bearings. the transition from very quiet to VERY loud also reminds me of one drop bearings LOL

That’s super weird… I didn’t cheap out on the bearings at all, so I have no clue what the hell is up with that…

But it shouldn’t be every bearing when everything is brand new. I pulled the flat A’s out of individually sealed packages. They weren’t even shipped in a tube. Every bearing I included should be perfect.

I just checked my orders, they were actually ABEC-3, not ABEC-5, my mistake. It was the center track ones I got that are ABEC-5.

The ABEC-3 MR105-2RS were $11/10 pack, so pretty cheap. I’ve also actually had good luck with even cheaper ABEC-1 / Z2 rubber shielded ones from Amazon. They’re $14 for 30 of them, and I use them in a lot of the 3D printed throws that I give away. The brand is Mlxkell.

Nah I’m not suggesting you cheaped out or anything. Heck bearings are silly shipping them could have caused changes either way I’m excited for mine when it arrives usps is being slow
