Awesome! The design I’m kicking around in my brain is actually probably a little more standard in some ways than most of my work, it is properly round at least with little to no machining (maybe some holes) but would be turned ideally from a single piece of ultem (PEI).

Can you remind us of how many are in the works? Proto 1 and 2?

Proto 1 is likely to remain at a total of 2 forever. It’s the one I’ve been throwing around since I made them in December. I don’t quite like the sharp edges on the inside of the cup at all and I wanted to get rid of the risk of burrs in a couple places.
V2 just rounds things out a hair more and widens the catch angle a bit.
Count is at 25 total units. Should have been 26, but there was one person who never put in their deposit. I figure I’ll make a few extra to send into play it forward groups and to make available for review, as well.
I’ve also had a few people ask about the possibility that I might allow a late order somewhat recently, but I don’t know if I should open them up again or not. Part of me wants to open it up for like 1 more week as I’m actually making chips because of the huge delay around the encoder, but IDK if I should or not. I’ll leave it up to the people here.
If you guys think it’s a good idea and there’s a few more orders made then I’d honor the price break points from the original order run.
Should I open orders back up for a week or two?

I’ll do my best! I might just go ahead and cut an aluminum unit so I can show the machine in operation. Titanium will burn and potentially ignite if I’m not careful, so I have to run a lot of coolant there.

You’ll get one early unit and one later unit. The distinction between those is that the early units are going to be focused on perfecting form, removing match line blemishes, and fine-tuning the speed of the cutting while the later units are going to be focused on perfecting finish. I’ll be getting better with my anodization cell, learning some of the finer points of sand blasting, and experimenting with different finishes outside of blasting.
So far only a single unit exists, the first yoyo I ever made. I have the cups of a couple more cut, but they may end up being scrap depending on a couple things. There was a not-a-crash that messed with the forms of a couple of them. It also turns out that the aluminum test units are a suuuuuuper interesting thing to play with. @Obstinate_Yoyo has 1 of 2, and seems to have had a pretty hard time hurting it, which was odd for how thin they are. Everyone who’s touched it has had fun. They seem to play super well for a sub-40g full size, so that’ll be fun to play with maybe.
No real news on these at all just yet, but I do eventually plan to get them out into the world. Gotta focus on the Queen until she’s ready and all.

Anybody in here gonna be at nationals? I’m trying to get a unit ready tonight so I can send it along tomorrow. Would arrive Saturday if I can manage to get it ready.

Proto 1 has seen a few sparks since I made her, but I do like the looks.
