Ricochet and other undersized yoyos.

What is your favorite undersized yoyo and why?
Mine is the nova, but I really want to try out the ricochet.

Puffin 2 is so nice

Puffin 2 is undersized?

Definitely the Ricochet!

Aurora. Because Ti

Puffin 2 is midsized IMO

My favorite undersized yoyo is the Markmont. Project or Next, those are pretty much tied for favorite

Does the ti-walker count?

If not, then the Nobunaga is nice

mine would have to be the popstar, maybe because its my second undersized throw but hopefully i get some new throws soon

Skyline, 888 and M1. All very nice.

wouldnt mid sized be considered full sized? Thought it was under sized(54<) full sized(54-56) and over sized(56>).

Wait, the puffin is 54 isn’t it?

Tough choice, either Ricochet or Monkey Fist.

Puffin is 53

oh. So that counts as undersized. Puffin 2 all the way.

08 888 and sb basselope are fun. Wish I had an 07 888. Even though it’s 54mm the schneider mk-II feels very undersized because it has such a straight profile.

Puffin 2 … undersized? Whatever… you guys can try to strictly classify if you want, but that’s a mid-sized throw all the way.

My favourite undersized is the Spin Dynamics Smooth Move. It’s not the most high-performance yoyo ever made (it’s a light organic like the 888) but it has a special feel to it. I just dig it. It makes me happy to play it.

I had a lot of love for the Spin Dynamics Monkey Fist and also the SPYY Supra, too, though.

That’s the real undersized right there… hovering around 50mm. None of this 53, 53.5mm pretending to be undersized stuff.

53mm would be the leviathan series
52 would be the angle or pyro 3
51mm would be pacquiao
50 would be the 07 888
Under 50 would be the eli dert

I have many yoyos in every size range pretty much… Few 4a yoyos; so not many above say… 58mm.

And depending on who you talk to, the size/diameter ranges will vary.

After cutting up yoyos since 1998, I have my own rough sizing system(in my mind, lol).

Realize that because we All have various ā€˜feelings of size’ partly based on hand size; a yoyo that seems large(56/57mm) to one person, may feel mid sized to a person with larger hands like Chris Allen for example.

Me; I wear a size medium work glove. So my rough size system is personally guided by my hand size.

Larger 1A yoyos: 55/56/57/58mm

Mid. Sized 1A yoyos: 52/53/54mm

Small 1A yoyos: 49/50/51mm

Undersized 1A yoyos: 48mm and under

I have never Googled it but maybe somebody or some site has posted up a reasonably accurate yoyo sizing chart? Dunno?

But if we just don’t want to agree on specific size range groupings, let me give an example of 4 yoyos that I am not even gonna measure. But that I would consider to be different sizes just sitting them next to each other on a table or holding in your hands one after the other>

  1. YYR Overdrive
  2. CLYW Puffin
  3. CLYW Campfire
  4. YYR Cube

The Cube feels really small compared to the Campfire. If you throw the Campfire for 10 minutes and then throw the Puffin; the Puffin feels like a chunky beast, lol. Put down the chubby Puffin and pick up the Overdrive and you suddenly have a V shaped handful.

As some of your replies indicate; different folks have different ideas on what group a yoyo represents. Especially when you consider some yoyos are borderline measurements: 53.8mm or 54.7mm or 52.9mm, etc.

Also sometimes the width or even the perceived width has an effect on now you brain decides to ā€˜size’ a yoyo. For example, a YYF Monster. Not that large in diameter, but Seriously wiiiide… Some folks would consider it to be a larger yoyo just because it is a Handful. Or the XCube Seed. It is a larger diameter and very wide. And it prolly seems Huge to some people.

So unless you want to identify size groups by specific Diameter range limitations; width and overall feel in the hand play a large part of ā€˜size perception’.

Didn’t that explanation sound scientific? Lolol

General yo entheos is fun.

And yelets in nice too.

For me, the Ricochet is definitely the #1 undersized yo-yo. It’s solid, stable, ultra durable, and gorgeous. I consider undersized no more than 52. So, I consider Puffin 2 a mid-sized throw. After reading some of these posts, we definitely don’t agree on what ā€œundersizedā€ means.

Like many people, my favorite undersized is the ricochet. I just love the way it feels in the hand and also on the string. Plus, it is one of my favorite yoyos to photograph
