We’ve tagged @TryCatchThrow as the designer multiple times. Beyond a file name of “unresponsive yoyo” and revision number it was an unnamed design. Naturally we wanted to give it one for our personal release and sale of them.
With Keith’s approval we’ve decided to call it the Dipteran. Which is anything in the fly or two wing species group.
There might be future ideas for this design with some hardware changes. So all the better we at least had a name figured out.
Probably within the first week of having our printer we tried to print the first Dipteran(the orange and green from this post, not for sale).
No clue on settings, it was left on the default 15% infill and we ended up with a ridiculously light yoyo. To be able to print something and have it play was such an exciting moment for us either way.
We’d consider this first run our larval stage in the world of 3D printing(another reason for the gummy worms theme). For the ones we are selling we increased the weight to just under 65 grams.
There were still some slight experiments/setting changes among them. Including the counterweights these come with. Some are our original designs, mostly prototype stages. Others are not our own design but scaled down to the right size and weight. Happy to share any of them if anyone wants them for personal use to print themselves. As they are not final designs some may not be the best weight set up or benefit from an addition of bead if you have issues with string slipping through.
Kris has had a sudden flare up with medical issues. Went to the urgent care twice and the ER three times already. Don’t have answers or end in sight. Basically requiring round the clock care and anti-nausea medication and still not seeing much improvement. Significant weight loss over this week.
We’re going to be trying to get an emergency appointment at a gastroenterologist.
Kris will soon use up all paid time off from work, but luckily has been approved for medical leave. Kris’ job is our only real income this is a very scary situation to be dealing with.
I am working on some merch graphics (also new logos) so hopefully there’s plenty of ways to support us even if you’re not looking for mods, yoyos or counterweights.
For Double Dice sets should we keep these same color or do you prefer two different colors?

We’ve completed assembly for at least this first release. Just working on photos, videos and then packaging.
It’s crazy how all the little details add up… Thinking release is still a couple weeks out minimum. I spent most of today getting my printer ready for labels.
A few videos on Instagram showing how they work but basically similar to a “phlat ball” concept. Of course being me I am looking into all sorts of ways I can use it for new tricks.
There’s a similar 3D print fidget currently made. However the file we have is not made by that company and was listed as a free use file. We’ve made our own edits to make them ideal for a counterweight.
We’ll have to see what each PLA color comes out to in weight, but the sweet spot we’ll shoot for is between 10.3-10.6 grams on the finalized and for sale prints. With the possibility of custom ordering lighter ones if you are interested for some yoyos that need it.
We also use elastic that we individually have to tie to achieve the best results. We found rubber bands break too quickly and also don’t have the best resistance to make them go from flat back to ball in a smooth motion. The updates also make them have a nice click where the original lighter/touch smaller file lacked that.
