One Drop YoYos Official News

i was just rooting for cool things, not for factory defects lol… as he said, they have a list of cool things. i’m not the only one that sacrifices a little vibe for a certain experience. some models of yoyos are known to have vibe, same with old school yoyos. if it’s ruining your experience that much, don’t use it. but, big but, the vibe bar is pretty high for these companies. i don’t want to split hairs about what technique will or won’t. for now as far as they’re concerned they won’t… fine with me, but one wonders what ‘could’ be.

edit: to this end, there’s a whole b-grade market made up of vibey yoyos that sell as fast as the a grades.

I understand both sides of the argument and definitely agree that I love seeing cool and interesting yoyos rather than basic conforming designs and finishes.
My favourite yoyos are tri-metal but I’ve never played one that was actually dead smooth due to manufacturing difficulties.

Unfortunately I feel like OD is a brand that prides themselves heavily on their QC and stuff like this compromises that ideal.

Looks like the 14th is gonna be the first time in a while I try to buy a yoyo. I’m trying to save for nats but I can break my yoyo ban for this. If I’m really lucky it’ll sell out so fast that I don’t get to spend my money! Pretty excited for it though!

I really wish they could tell us what colorways they plan on making in the immediate future. That way when you plan on spending hard earned cash on a throw you don’t have to worry if you made the right choice or if you should have waited. I really like the light brown they have for it but would definitely like concrete blizzard over brown. But I’ll try my luck with the brown cause how am i supposed to know if they’ll run the color id like to see. Just saying.. but i get it.

Agree big time. This sorta thing happens across all of my hobbies. It preys on FoMo, I think.

Edit to add: this will be the first yo-yo I buy in a year.

Question: If a company has used multiple annodizers over a decade, and they all have slightly different colors, would you prefer a ‘Concrete Blizzard’ that doesn’t look the same as past models because a different company is anodizing them, or would you rather it have a new name and be distinctly different? I anticipate the answer will vary which is why they are hesitant to say if they can do a specific colorway or not.

Edit: this is why there are many different kinds of ‘Market’ colorways and they aren’t just all ‘Saturday Market.’

I would say as long as it’s close enough. CLYW has had some questionable 28 Stories models over the years though lol

What if you don’t know how close it’ll be because the annodizer has never done that splash? Just playing devil’s advocate here. Its easy to assume the manufacturer of the yoyo has control over all variables and they simply don’t.

I think this is a fairly generous interpretation of what ordinarily happens. Responding accordingly: I would rather know that X is for sale now and (some reasonable description) Y will be available in the coming months. It’s not that complicated. “Eg. We will have some solids and new splashes available in June.”

It’s one thing if they really don’t know, another if it’s just staging releases to capitalize on FoMo.

Oh I wasn’t even following the thread and missed the context. I was just going to say decide on the spot lol.

It’s a matter of experimentation and not disappointing people with promises they can’t keep. David once told me directly that they would not make a Saturday Market Legendary Terrarian. Joke’s on past David, I own one now! If they told you what colours there are supposed to be before they go in for anodising, some of those colours with turn out NQP (see: Crucible Fulgur colour which is 100% NQPs) and you’ll be disappointed after waiting for several weeks.

The colors that yoyos come in are everything from a dull solid to artwork. These are not mass produced honda’s. It’s the nature of the hobby.

I remember hearing that there would be some kind of a staged release

Here’s an example of what I mean:
Let’s say One Drop had announced that there would be Watermellow Summit 2s.

Expectation:

Reality:

By the way, One Drop has already publicly teased what colours will be coming in the future for the Summit 2:

So each player who was present for the Summit 2 experience will eventually get their own “Player Edition” model with their color and Side Effects of choice.

I’m not exactly sure who was present but it’s only a matter of asking. To temper your expectations though, do keep in mind that One Drop have a bit of a history of making plans and then forgetting about them.

I thought these se’s with that art were reserved for the first draft summit2s. Now we have these as well?

If we take concrete blizzard as an example that has looked very different throughout several throws…i know the general idea of what it will look like with an unforeseen range of variance that is within the colorway. So basically i know they’ll get it in the ball park of what I’m expecting so i wouldn’t want to see a different name

I think just the color

Much thicker engraving on these newer ones than the first batch. They might have been referring to some that got the Caribou and OD logos engraved on them like the first summit
