I literally got mine yesterday.
I’ve heard a lot of comparisons with the Cascade (which I love with all my heart), since this yo-yo was taken as a basis for development. In short, it is similar and not similar at the same time.
Rainier is bigger than Cascade and Prescription. The balance and weight distribution have become better in feel, while on the string it does not seem too heavy. It is easy to accelerate, excellent maneuverability. The catch zone has also become a little more accessible for the string. For some reason, it reminded me more of the Wizard during the game.
In terms of the visual part, everyone has their own preferences, but to me it looks like a kind of “spirit of the old school”, with these chopped lines inside the cup and a thick cut on the edge of the rim.
Cool photos! So which of those 3 do you actually prefer?
I would love to see a combination of Rainier weight distribution, Cascade size and Prescription Projection Profile. . .
definitely very rim-weighted, feels closest to a canopy al among what i have. mostly bigger and of course the pyramatte finish and smooth profile feels different in the hand
first one drop out of ten-ish that i own where i swapped out the bearing for a double straight. also using dietz side effects
When it comes to Cascade I become very biased in my assessments
But if I look at it more sensibly - now I prefer Rainier, for the reasons that it feels fresh, and I have started to turn to wider sizes and lighter weight yo-yos more often. After all, I have played a lot with Cascade and Prescription, and they have become a bit “boring” in the game. Of course, different SEs can liven up the game a bit.
Cascade will always remain in my heart with its slight clumsiness on the string. But Rainier feels like a logical and technically verified development of the idea of Cascade and Prescription, which is what I like at the moment.
